I'm not sure what version these are. Saw this and I have had luck with Linksys recertified routers.
linky

These routers are open source so 3rd party firmware such as DD-WRT, tomato and others are available for flashing to unlock a lot of capabilities.

older versions have more flash ram while the newer versions have less ram to only allow micro versions of the 3rd party firmware.

someone find out what version these might be, stat!

memory and dd-wrt or open-wrt flashability specs are nowhere to be found. I speculate it has 4 MB and is more "closed" than other wrt54g models.

I bought one to see what version it is. Hope it's less than v.4!

it's a g model -- wrt54g. The -RM just means Re-Manufactured..

Therefore the real question is what version of wrt54g are these. I speculate it's all kinds of different versions.

I might grab a few of these, they're built like tanks and were probably just customer returns because they couldn't figure it out.

I have one of these installed under the eve of my house for the last 2 years no insulation just out there rain or sunshine hasn't stopped yet, even has spider webs. I second the previous post its definitely built like a tank.

mine was delivered today. A friend of mine got the v4. I'll report back on which one I got.

You can get brand new v.8 wrt54g for around $40. Why mess with a refurb? I picked one of these up at Target 2 weeks ago and flashed it with DD-WRT.

v8 = micro DD-WRT only

In this case, a v4 is more powerful than a v8.

You mentioned that you got it at Target for $40. Is that on sales / clearance or something? I just looked online and they seem to be around $70-80.

Great question. On top of that, I didn't see a post from him about that deal, would have been nice!

Somewhat OT but I have a v.6 I flashed with DD-WRT hoping it might perform a little better. I have 30 Mbs cable but can only seem to get around 8-9 Mbps via wireless G connections. Flashing didn't help. Anyone no of a wireless router that can get anywhere closer to 30 Mbs true throughput?

Or are others experiencing fine speeds with this router and its just my setup/interference/etc?

Back in stock but $10 higher. I just purchased 2 with 2 day shipping for $70.

Thanks OP!
