Free shipping with code X51. 1.5% FatCash makes it $195. Do not own one, but have heard great reviews of this unit. Can be upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.0. Although probably not as purdy, this seems to be much more capable than the Ipod Touch.

Dell Axim X51v 624 MHz PDA

General Features:
Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0
Intel XScale PXA270 624 MHz
3.7-inch TouchScreen TFT color LCD (480 x 640)

Integrated Bluetooth Wireless Technology
25 6MB ROM / 64 MB SDRAM
Secure Digital Memory Slot
CompactFlash Memory Slot
5-way navigation button
3.5 mm headphone / headset jack

Many use this while tethered to a bluetooth-ed phone and rave about its phone capabilities. Can anyone speak to that?

you could probably do voip while tethering data from your phone. not sure about the quality and the overall point of doing it since you have to have your phone with you. otherwise use wifi.

had one.. sold it on eBay..
with cellphone, pager and a pda my white coat was getting heavy.
bought a smartphone..
the only drawback is the screen size is smaller in smartphones..
but lesser load..

probably the best PDA in the market up to now. owned it for years until i got my pda/phone this year. i still miss the 640x480 display that is great for web browsing. my tilt is useless for surfing unless i use it to tether to my laptop.

I have one of these and loved it. I don't think that there's anything better out there PDA wise. The only reason I stopped using mine was that I moved to a PPC6700 so I have an integrated phone and PDA. I do miss the VGA screen, tho I am getting used to it.

If you're looking for just a PDA, or don't care about the integration, then this is an excellent PDA. It's just a shame there isn't an add in card for Sprint that you could get to turn it into a phone.

I used to have Dell axim X31, then X30, then X51V. I hope Dell would start making PDA phone based on X51 series. Thank you Michael Dell!

battery life is not very good compare to HP. I have a x50v.

i had one until it was stolen last year with a 4GB SD card and an 8GB cf card, I was pissed for a loooong time about it and still am. Nothing came close to it in terms of functionality, i even had the BT stack replaced by the widcomm one with much better functionality than the built in craptacular MS stack.

I used the old X50v for a long time - it was an excellent PDA and this is a decent price. I prefer the old WM2003SE though, so not too sure about the new OS (better BT stack on the old OS).

I have a Palm Centro with Sprint. Can I tether this to it to get on the Internet with the Dell?

I work in the software development world, and actually spent a few years specializing in creating commercial software for pocket pc. This device is great. The newer devices that you see on the market today can't hold up to this. I believe there are some windows mobile 6 hacks out there too if you're interested.

I have to say that the HP's hold well, but for this price, you can't go wrong. Of course, I now use a pda phone, so no use for a device like this.

Can someone please address the issue of advantages/risks of upgrading from WM 5.0 to WM 6.0 and if so ~exactly~ how to do this? I have successfully been able to use it with a blue tooth device. My Axim x51v and it is my work and entertainment workhorse! You will not be disappointed in this device if the aforementioned tasks are what you want.

i have an x51v and absolutely love it. I am able to run a sip softphone over it over my phone and it works without a hickup. I also run WM 6 on it and it is faster and more stable. if you have not upgraded and your axim is out of warranty do the upgrade asap, just remember to backup first.

Like a lot of people here, I also used an Axim x50v for several years and stopped using it when I switched to an integrated cell phone/PDA device. We were keeping it in my wife's car for navigation purposes. Recently I was looking for a media player for my 19 months old son to keep him entertained in the car. After a lot of search, I decided that there is nothing in the market that offers more than that. For around $200 extra you can get 48GB solid state storage (32GB CF and 16GB SD, SDHC works with Windows Mobile 6.1 btw) and that makes it an excellent media player with VGA screen, bluetooth, WiFi, etc. I got a refurbished x51v from eBay, so now we have a x50v and a x51v in the car, one on the windshield for navigation, and one on the rear door window for my son's favorite videos. Its screen is a little bit small for videos, but with VGA output its capabilities are endless. When I have time I will turn one into a carputer. Check out this thread to see what I am talking about.

Edit: I found the original thread for the Aximizer development. It is really cool: here.

I also view video on x50v but landscape mode is not good feels like smoke is between the screen and your eye. Portrait mode is perfect and sharp and bright.

I had one and loved it until it overheated charging on an unstable current.
I don't know any other device that has such a nice touchscreen for such a low price.

I'm trying to order one but i get the following message:
"We are unable to process your request."

Still in stock.
I was able to order using Internet Explorer rather than Firefox.
1.5% CashBack listed under Computer Geeks and don't forget free shipping. Sells for over $230 used on eBay.

The bluetooth tethering to a cell phone works well. I am using a sprint 3G connection. Word of advice: get the phone working on your laptop first to make sure you have the phones settings correct. I also use a stereo bluetooth s9 headset with it and it works with the dinova bluetooth keyboard too.
