These things were about $450 a few months ago. I picked one up back than and it's pretty nice for a sub $500 lappy. Only thing, it is a little heavy for what it is. |

Is this a good machine for playing Starcraft (Broodwars)? How are Dells in general? I've never owned a Dell notebook before. Do you think the processor is too weak to play my game? |

This system can definitely play broodwars. Hey jschuman did it have the same specs when you brought it for 450? and why was it so cheap? |

Can I have more red? Thanks in advance. Seriously, I have a Vostro 1500 w/ 2 GB of memory with Vista Home installed and it is painfully slow. I like the "potential" of Vista, but it doesn't work with 2 GBs on this computer from my Personal Experience I'm a developer and I have a dual-boot configuration on my 1500 w Vista and XP Professional for my developer tools. The XP setup works fine w/o issue. When individuals receive their machine and start surfing the web, they will grow tired of that Vista busy swirling circle every time they click on something. I welcome the purchasers of this laptop to report the speed results when they receive their system and start using it. |

MasterVingo said:Man, CPU upgrades are expensive, why is that? These 1.4 just junk, who wants to get a great computer which has a 4 cylender engine. I have to agree. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but till as recently as mid-April it was possible to upgrade the processor to T7250 (2.0ghz) for $130 additional. But now all such upgrades are a steep $175! I thought processor prices are supposed to fall over time. |

The reason Vista feels sluggish on this laptop is the superfetch "feature" that loads programs into the memory on startup. While this works fine for a desktop with a 7,200 rpm hard drive, it's not so hot for the slower 5,400 hard drive. I would just turn this feature off, especially if you shut down and reboot the laptop a lot. I still wouldn't recommend Vista for someone used to XP and not particularly interested in learning the new OS layout, but Vista really isn't as bad as many make it out to be. |

So do you recommend XP Home over Vista if I order this machine? |
