Nothing too hot, not as good as last Friday, but may be some deals to be had.

Highlights:
Compaq X2 notebook w/ Vista - $398
Canon MP470 Refurb All-in-one Printer - $39.99
4gb PC4200 Sodimm - $49.99 AR

Happy Saving!

Yeah, definitely not as good as last week. I did pick up a gig of DDR PC3200 memory that I've been needing. It was $20 AR here in Houston as part of their regular weekend ad.

Looks like Maxtor 750GB SATA 300 for $99 and a 46" Mitsi LCD TV for $1299 pretty good, although Houston will proabbly not have the same sale as usual.

thanks op, still hungover from the deals last week.

How about the Apevia Java 500W PSU? Is it noisy?

Is the 4GB Memorex USB capless flash drive for $17.99 a good deal? What about the 8GB one for $27.99? Thanks.

I wonder what version that EVGA 8800GT for $129 AR is. The picture in the ad looks like a dual-slot version.

The pic in the ad looks like the Akimbo:
1GB EVA $259.99 AR

but the price $229 before discount matches this single-slot version
512MB EVGA 8800GT $199.99 AR

Ah, the ad does say only 512MB, so I guess they're just using the wrong image.

Frys.com LINK (on line price is $50 more). At $129.99 AR this is the best price yet for an 8800GT 512MB card. IMHO the price on this video card deserves its own thread (or to have 8800GT in the title of this thread).

Model #512-P3-N800-FR (from rebate form) - Spec Sheet

I notice the compaq there (identical our houston ad this morning) is $599 on the website, and shows vista home premium there. In the ad it says home basic. Wonder which is the misprint (unless this instance is opposite my experience and identical frys product numbers on notebooks configured differently)? My guess is for whatever reason the $389 will not be the same.

But even if it is, I'm getting the idea it's still not that hot? Looks like $500 to 600 elswehwere. Know what else beats it tomorrow O.T.T.O.Y.H.?

Not to mention, this is an EVGA and eligible for the step-up program.

Personally, I'm going to wait a few more weeks until the new Nvidia and ATI cards ship. I have my eye on the 4850, but if the reviews are disappointing, I think I will still be able to pick up an even cheaper 8800GT. Next month, I think the before rebate prices will come down to the level of today's AR prices on the previous-gen cards.

fatweah said: How about the Apevia Java 500W PSU? Is it noisy?I don't know, but Apevia is the new name for Aspire, and the review here of a 500W model called it a "wreck". Apevia seems to get its power supplies from several different manufacturers, none very good.

Should I exchange the $380 Toshiba A205-5825 I bought during their May 16 anniversary sale for this $389 Compaq notebook? The price and features are virtualy the same. IOW is Compaq significantly better for reliability and support?

I just got back from fry's b&m, I picked up the evga 8800gt dual slot (this is not akimbo and they still had about 15 more in burbank,CA), got the evga 6200 agp for FAR, the antec HDD enclosure for $9.99, and also jumped the e7200+ecs mobo combo deal for $129.99 (cheapest price ive seen for the processor alone). I also checked the in store crucials, and they are the new 1 sided chips so i passed.
Thanks for the post OP!

Got these 3 free AR items this morning: Coolmax USB 2 eSATA, Apevia 500W PSU and Sharp USB20-PK fax machine.

Just bought 1 Apevia PSU
i'm in with it. Smooth RUN, and so QUIET
only 1 CON for me: Only 1 Core that 2 SATA adapters. My Hdd and DVD are far apart, so I expected every PSU has 2 Core. The four Pin are little short, which can't run it behind my motherboard

Performance = NICE
NOISE = Silent
Attractive = YES
LED = YES

overall = THUMB UP

I might go and grab another 1 in case the 1st one die!

Thanks for the report. And are you referring to the Crucial PC3200 1GB memory? If so, what's the downside of "the new 1 sided chips"?

BobF said: Crucial PC3200 1GB memory? If so, what's the downside of the 1-sided chips?What's a 1-sided chip? Chips are made of several layers. OTOH modules (chip != module) with chips on only one side are incompatible with some motherboards because each chip has too many address lines for it or the refresh counter doesn't count high enough - somethin' like that.

im sorry the one i was talking about was the ballistix in the ad, pc6400 800mhz 2x1gb crucials.

the downside of the one sided chip modules(which is the new thing crucial is doing to most ballistix if not all memory sticks now) is that they are have less to no overclockability option, since they are using cheaper micron chips and not the good old microns we loved so much. The older versions had chips on both sides of the stick below the heatsink, and the heatsink was held down by clamps, the new ones are only glued. That's the easiest way you can tell. these sticks are still a great deal for the price if you don't need to overclock and don't forget they have lifetime warranty.

How to tell if it's one sided? Have to take out the heatsink?

nope just look at the sticks from above, or see if it has clamps on the top holding the heatsink on there.

old crucial pic 1 with clamp removed pic 2

new crucial pic 1

you can also tell from the model/part number to be 100% sure
the old ones end in .16FD5 in the pic example (the 16 means 16chips=dual sided) pic

the new ones end in .8FE5 in the pic example (the 8 means 8 chips=1 sided) pic
