Yes I would like to know too? Seagate is known for their super reliability. The only issue I have ever heard of is the issue with one of their firmwares on the 7200.10 500GB drives that limited the max transfer rate at around 55mb/s. That wasn't a reliability issue.
For $10 ($179 + ship) more you can get the Seagate 1T 32MB @ fry's

However you prefer to look at it. It resulted in Seagate being months later to the market with their 1TB drives(than Hitachi and WD).
Red for Maxtor. Doesn't matter if Seagate owns Maxtor, the construction of the Maxtor drives is still inferior. These are the drives that educate the most people (the hard way) about developing a backup strategy.
It may have a 3 year warranty, but you will use it several times in that 3 year window (and Maxtor makes you PAY for the "PRIVILEGE" of an advance replacement).

After Seagate bought Maxtor, they are the same drives. Maxtor sucked before that, but if you have any evidence to show it still sucks, show it.

Doesn't every drive manufacturer make you pay for advance replacement?
AFAIK, Maxtor drives are basically all Seagate hardware at this point; there shouldn't be any Maxtor manufactured drives floating around except in the smaller sizes.

...Hitachi was the first hard drive maker to offer a 1 TB model, the Deskstar 7K1000, as early as the spring of 2007. Although Samsung and Seagate announced their 1 TB hard drives months ago, Samsung is past due, and Seagate's first 7200.11 sample had to be sent back because of faulty firmware - what a pity....
The best you could do was an article from October? Many products in their first run have problems. Anything from that batch is loonnnnggg gone by this point.
As for the guy complaining about Maxtor drives, they are Seagates now with a shorter warrantee. I have several Maxtor and Seagates and they are (at least externally) exactly the same. And as one person already pointed out, if you want a fast replacement of a drive, all HD companies require you to pay for a new one and they re-imburse you the cost when they receive the faulty drive. Western Digital did this to me when one of my 80GB PATA JB drives died on me 4 years ago.

As stated, Seagate did not get their 1 TB drives back on the market until late March 08, or April at the earliest. Much, much later the other majors had theirs' out.
So there was a significant issue with their 1TB drives. That is in no way implying that there is a concern with the drives now. Seagate , of course makes fine drives.

I'm with you johnqh.....I've seen Seagate drives available for the last 6 months at least. Certianly longer than 2 months!

In my recollection, Seagate came out with the first 1 TB drive, followed by Hitachi, Samsung? then WD. The current Seagate 1 TB model is rev. 2 with bigger platters? There has been some reports of .11 issues.
No need to "discuss" in such an emotional manner. I would buy any one of them even though I have my preferences. I haven't read any 33X MB/platter test reports yet from WD (not released?).

Seagate was definitely the first to announce, but according to the link quoted several times already, was the last(along with Samsung) to send a model to Tom's for review. Even though Samsung also announced early, I still don't know if it's out yet. Although Samsung seems to market their drives more on an oem model.

Samsung isn't out yet? Really? Newegg has had them since at least January. In fact a quick wander over there, and I can see reviews back to December!
The deal is back again this week for So Cal B&M and online. Limit 1 for online only though.
