Squaretrade 2-year warranty for $39 with coupon code: "FIFTYOFF"

Edit: code FIFTYOFF didn't work for me - said it's only available for certain users... The best coupon code I got to work was "FRIENDS30" for 30% off making the warranty $54 - still worth it to me though.

Looks like a deal to me. I was in the market for a 32" budget LCD for my bedroom, and while occasionally you'll see no-namers for $399, I didn't want to wait around. Plus I've heard Westinghouse makes fairly decent budget LCDs. No tax or shipping makes the deal that much better.

was just about to post this...definitely a solid deal, though admittedly not scorching. 32" LCDs definitely have not come down in price significantly over the past year or so...

Ordered one for my mom. Credit card doubled the warranty to 2 years for free, or 5 years in house for $78. Already received tracking info using FedEx ground.

how do I use the squaretrade deal? Whats the basic warranty on this tv? I have American Express blue, should I use that when ordering for an extended warranty and forget the squaretrade one?

Incase the supported format matters to you, the provided link says the tv also supports 1080i

Copied from website:
"HDTV 480p, 720p, 1080i"

You have to order that separate from squaretrade.com. I just mentioned it as the peace of mind is worth the $39 to some uncomfortable with a refurb (especially from Buy.com

AMEX website says it doesn't cover

"at the time of purchase, used, rebuilt, refurbished or remanufactured items;"

so the AMEX extension is a no go

AMEX may be a no go, but Platinum Visa thru Chase was good for 2 years total warranty. Plus the 5 year in home warranty is only $78 (didn't get that)

thanks for the info. Also does it say anywhere how long the recertified warranty is? I didn't see any time periods listed on the site and looking online it seems that it could be anywhere from 90 days to a year.

Is the squaretrade warranty recommended? I read that to sign up I can wait till just before the last 30 days of the manufacturer warranty to signup. Is that recommended?

Thanks

I don't know if it's recommended or not but I feel alot better about buying a refurb TV knowing I'm covered for at least the first 2 years (plus whatever the manufacturer warranty is). I saw an older discussion on SD for a deal on this TV (it was $585 then I believe) and they were all buying the squaretrade warranty, that's what made me think of it and mention it in the deal.

Yea I'm going to pick it up after I get the TV in and see how I like it. I already ordered it with my AMEX before I saw the refurb void thing

On the Westinghouse website it shows that it is a 1 year parts and labor warranty. Even on Buy's site it shows that it is a 1 year warranty. Way down near the bottom of the page just above the extended warranty option.

Did anyone get this shipped yet? I got a tracking number that shows the package data was transmitted, with ETA of June 3rd. As of this morning, it still shows that the only the package data was transmitted.

I've read horror stories about Buy.com and fedex tracking numbers sitting there for several weeks because they printed the label but didn't actually have the product available to ship.

alert mods

Same story here. I got the fedex tracking with delivery date 3rd June 08. I didn't get any further tracking message/information after package data transmitted to fedex. I called Fedex, they said that they didn't receive the package from shipper.

I called Buy.com, now my order is in claim status. Status shows Claim submitted. It takes 3 to 5 business day to enquire about the order.

Let us wait and watch the Buy.com game on Westinghouse LCD TV sales.

Thanks

I had checked my status and it was also set to arrive June 3rd. Nothing yesterday, I checked today to find that the status had changed and although it was confirmed to have shipped it had nothing now. I called fedex and they said the received the information and had not picked up the package. I called Buy.com and the engrish lady told me that it was fedex fault for never picking up the package. And that they were currently out of stock. My options were applying for a refund which takes 3-4 day or ask for a replacement which would take 8-10 days once they get them in stock.

Thats 3 people off these boards, and I ordered mine fairly early when they had it in stock for 3 days after. Something definitely fishy here.

I requested a refund.

What you guys think?

I also got the tracking info that said it would arrive on June 2nd... it stayed that way for my order until *I think* Friday when it updated to say FedEx finally got the package and I'd get it on the 5th. Mine's on its' way and will hopefully be here tomorrow - we'll be out of town Friday-Monday...

*edit*

Here's what my tracking looks like:

May 31, 2008 11:46 AM Departed FedEx location BLOOMINGTON, CA

May 30, 2008 8:52 PM Arrived at FedEx location BLOOMINGTON, CA
4:51 PM Picked up SAN DIEGO, CA

May 27, 2008 5:00 PM Package data transmitted to FedEx Oceanside, CA

*edit2*

Just remembered I messed up and didn't select free shipping (cost me $5 more) that could be why mine got moved along... (it IS Buy.com after all)
