Squaretrade 2-year warranty for $39 with coupon code: "FIFTYOFF"

Edit: code FIFTYOFF didn't work for me - said it's only available for certain users... The best coupon code I got to work was "FRIENDS30" for 30% off making the warranty $54 - still worth it to me though.

Looks like a deal to me. I was in the market for a 32" budget LCD for my bedroom, and while occasionally you'll see no-namers for $399, I didn't want to wait around. Plus I've heard Westinghouse makes fairly decent budget LCDs. No tax or shipping makes the deal that much better.

was just about to post this...definitely a solid deal, though admittedly not scorching. 32" LCDs definitely have not come down in price significantly over the past year or so...

Ordered one for my mom. Credit card doubled the warranty to 2 years for free, or 5 years in house for $78. Already received tracking info using FedEx ground.

how do I use the squaretrade deal? Whats the basic warranty on this tv? I have American Express blue, should I use that when ordering for an extended warranty and forget the squaretrade one?

Incase the supported format matters to you, the provided link says the tv also supports 1080i

Copied from website:
"HDTV 480p, 720p, 1080i"

where is the square deal warranty option? I didn't see when I tried to order?

calispec said: where is the square deal warranty option? I didn't see when I tried to order?

You have to order that separate from squaretrade.com. I just mentioned it as the peace of mind is worth the $39 to some uncomfortable with a refurb (especially from Buy.com

AMEX website says it doesn't cover

"at the time of purchase, used, rebuilt, refurbished or remanufactured items;"

so the AMEX extension is a no go

AMEX may be a no go, but Platinum Visa thru Chase was good for 2 years total warranty. Plus the 5 year in home warranty is only $78 (didn't get that)

thanks for the info. Also does it say anywhere how long the recertified warranty is? I didn't see any time periods listed on the site and looking online it seems that it could be anywhere from 90 days to a year.

Is the squaretrade warranty recommended? I read that to sign up I can wait till just before the last 30 days of the manufacturer warranty to signup. Is that recommended?

Thanks

I don't know if it's recommended or not but I feel alot better about buying a refurb TV knowing I'm covered for at least the first 2 years (plus whatever the manufacturer warranty is). I saw an older discussion on SD for a deal on this TV (it was $585 then I believe) and they were all buying the squaretrade warranty, that's what made me think of it and mention it in the deal.

Yea I'm going to pick it up after I get the TV in and see how I like it. I already ordered it with my AMEX before I saw the refurb void thing

On the Westinghouse website it shows that it is a 1 year parts and labor warranty. Even on Buy's site it shows that it is a 1 year warranty. Way down near the bottom of the page just above the extended warranty option.

Did anyone get this shipped yet? I got a tracking number that shows the package data was transmitted, with ETA of June 3rd. As of this morning, it still shows that the only the package data was transmitted.

I've read horror stories about Buy.com and fedex tracking numbers sitting there for several weeks because they printed the label but didn't actually have the product available to ship.

Same story here. I got the fedex tracking with delivery date 3rd June 08. I didn't get any further tracking message/information after package data transmitted to fedex. I called Fedex, they said that they didn't receive the package from shipper.

I called Buy.com, now my order is in claim status. Status shows Claim submitted. It takes 3 to 5 business day to enquire about the order.

Let us wait and watch the Buy.com game on Westinghouse LCD TV sales.

Thanks

I had checked my status and it was also set to arrive June 3rd. Nothing yesterday, I checked today to find that the status had changed and although it was confirmed to have shipped it had nothing now. I called fedex and they said the received the information and had not picked up the package. I called Buy.com and the engrish lady told me that it was fedex fault for never picking up the package. And that they were currently out of stock. My options were applying for a refund which takes 3-4 day or ask for a replacement which would take 8-10 days once they get them in stock.

Thats 3 people off these boards, and I ordered mine fairly early when they had it in stock for 3 days after. Something definitely fishy here.

I requested a refund.

What you guys think?

I also got the tracking info that said it would arrive on June 2nd... it stayed that way for my order until *I think* Friday when it updated to say FedEx finally got the package and I'd get it on the 5th. Mine's on its' way and will hopefully be here tomorrow - we'll be out of town Friday-Monday...

*edit*

Here's what my tracking looks like:

May 31, 2008 11:46 AM Departed FedEx location BLOOMINGTON, CA

May 30, 2008 8:52 PM Arrived at FedEx location BLOOMINGTON, CA
4:51 PM Picked up SAN DIEGO, CA

May 27, 2008 5:00 PM Package data transmitted to FedEx Oceanside, CA

*edit2*

Just remembered I messed up and didn't select free shipping (cost me $5 more) that could be why mine got moved along... (it IS Buy.com after all)

Put me down as number 4. I ordered mine last week when it said it took 3 days to ship out. My order went through quickly but the fedex status hasn't changed for a few days. Mine is set to arrive june 6th. I've had this happen before with Buy.com where the fedex status doesn't change but all of a sudden the product arrives. I'm still crossing fingers for a friday arrival, but I'm guessing I'll be in the same boat as you guys. Having wasted my time ordering something that Buy.com never had in stock.

I've been shopping at Buy.com for the last 7 years as they often have some of the best deals. During that time I never had problems. But it seems Buy.com has taken a big turn for the worst. Check out their reseller ratings. It was bad before, but absolutely horrible over the last 6 months.

Reseller Ratings for Buy.com

Mine was the 28th, and still no update as of right now. I paid for the 3-5 day shipping as well which is now pointless. I'll give it another weekend before I go through the trouble of requesting a refund.

This deal may have just gotten way sweeter. I was just checking over at SD to see if others were having this problem and found there's a $100 rebate for this TV It's advertised on the non-refurb page but the rebate form says nothing about new vs rebate, definitely worth the postage to find out though!

Linkified

Bummer though, must purchase between June 3 and June 10...

Same problem here... May 28 May 28, 2008 5:00 PM

Package data transmitted to FedEx

Oceanside, CA

Hasnt updated since... Somethings definitely fishy here...

If that 100 rebate is true that would have me place an order again if it comes back in stock. So whats going on with Buy.com? Are they saving money by taking orders for out of stock items? Then ordering?

Enternal said: If that 100 rebate is true that would have me place an order again if it comes back in stock.

I was thinking the same thing, if yours hasn't shipped yet may be worth the chance to cancel and re-order...

If we cancel and re-order and request the ultra expensive shipping, will they actually get off their arse and give the tv to fedex this time? Or will we just be paying an extra 30-50$ in shipping but still have it sit as "information transmitted to fedex"???

If anyone is still looking to buy a SquareTrade Warranty for a high ticket item and couldn't get the discount codes to work there is a work around. Buy a warranty for something cheap and then they will send you the 40% off code. Once you are in their system, both the 50% off, FIFTYOFF, and the 40% off, FREEDOM40, codes will work.

In my case I ordered a DVD player for $25 and a 47" LCD for $750 from the Philips Electronics Employee "Friends and Family" Blowout Sale. I brought a warranty for the DVD player at full price for $3. I then went back and brought the warranty for the TV which is $135 - 50% = $67.50.

Sweet!... I wonder if it's too late to cancel the warranty I bought and go this route? Do they ever do anything to verify the item you purchased (request S/N or anything)? If not I could possibly put a warranty a $25 DVD player that doesn't actually exist and save $15 on the warranty for the TV...

*edit*

Canceling the warranty was very easy, just had to click a few buttons on their homepage and they're refunding the full amount.

Wife just called, the TV showed up at the house today. I'll post on the condition later after I get home from work.

Got it all hooked up, seems good so far. No time to thoroughly test tonight though... I did find that the sound isn't working but my Onkyo 805 may not pass sound through to the TV? I'll get a better chance to play with it when we get back from our trip.

The status on my order just changed from package data sent to fedex, to picked up (4:30pm today). It was *supposed* to arrive tomorrow, but now the arrival date has changed to June 11th. At least it's on its way, but 12 days for shipping is a little ridiculous. I guess next time I'll pay the extra cash for two day delivery, I wonder if that would have sped the whole process up... Hope the status changed for the other 4 people who were in my situation!

My status has been updated to the 11th as well, even though I asked for a refund and it shows it on my customer information page.

I'm still looking for 32" and was going to try and just reorder and submit the rebate. Do you guys think I'll end up being sent this tv anyways and should just take it, likely be billed, and accept the poor service?

Don't bother paying extra for shipping in the future. I paid for 3-5 day shipping and mine has been updated to the 11th as well. So $5 for the same delivery time as the free.

Ah well, at least it's coming. Ordering and reordering is no longer an option thanks to NY State law and the imposed tax on all internet purchases. I'm glad Buy.com at least got the order in before I got hit with the extra $35 or so in taxes.

Enternal I think if they already shipped it(as in Fedex picked it up) you'll 99.9% get it sent to you even though you tried cancelling. If they send it to you they will also DEFINITELY bill you and not pay for shipping back to them. Only way to know for sure is to call them. Messed up that you requested the order cancelled and they still shipped it.

Since cancelling orders is kind of hard with Buy.com, I would definitely not reorder until your cancellation is confirmed.

thanks for the advice, guess I'll see what happens next week. Btw please post a review of the sets you guys get in. Thanks

Well I got my TV Thursday, with a little damage in shipping: a 1 cm "V" shaped scratch in the viewing area. Took photos and Buy is going to sort it out. After about 1 hour of watching the TV the tuner then failed. So they are going to have a bit more to sort out. Oh well. I still may go back and get another.

Finally got to play around with my TV a bit. I got the sound issue straightened out, my receiver was set to not pass sound. I don't have much experience with HDTV's other than my HD projector but I think the picture is great! The original settings were very washed out, also there is a green push. Here are the settings I found on AVSForum, the picture looks much better now:

TV Settings:

Red 31
Green 28
Blue 31

Best video setting.... (brightness, contrast...)

Brightness 11
Contrast 45
Saturation 27
Hue 25
Sharpness 4
Backlight 35

Use warm setting

Thanks for the optimal settings.

What is your exprience lennon about this TV?

Could you please share with us in details.?

Unfortunately there aren't too many details to share...

The box was in good shape, the TV was a bit dusty inside the box (I thought this was a bit wierd) but appears to be in perfect cosmetic condition. I didn't give it a THOROUGH look over but nothing stands out. Hooked it up and everything seems to work fine. The picture is great (by my standards anyway - I am not an HDTV expert or anything though). I'm using this TV to replace a 27" CRT that we used as our main TV. This TV was perfect as a replacement because it is a bit larger than the CRT but the height is about the same. This is important to me because it has to fit under the projector screen that's mounted to the wall above the non-movie TV.

I have not extensively tested the inputs, I run an Onkyo 805 which upconverts all components and outputs them via the HDMI port - HDMI 1 is the only port I've used. I also have not tested the OTA tuner as we're 80 miles from the nearest OTA HDTV tower.

The only issue I had was the sound not working but as I mentioned earlier that was an issue with the receiver that I got straightened out.

The colors seem to be accurate enough, blacks are black enough, whites white enough. The image is very crisp. In all I am very happy with the purchase. I was hesitant to buy as I ordered a refurb roomba through Buy.com for christmas and what I received was not refurbished but flat out used (scratched, gouged, scuffed, and the battery was all but dead). The only complaint I would have is the possibility of a $100 rebate which my order doesn't qualify for as I ordered it a couple days before the rebate period.

Thanks, that was perfect explanation.
