how do you make a * code when needing to unlock on pantech? I push the key below digit 7 but it doesn't insert a *??

any help is appreciated!

You cannot unlock this phone without a "subsidy code". The instructions above does not unlock the phone allowing you to use a different carrier.

You can call AT&T and they will most likely tell you that you need to wait 6 months until they will give you a subsidy code. You might get very lucky and get it before 6 months is up. Very doubtful anymore though.

I just pay someone $10 for a subsidy code. Works everytime.

Yeah this phone is cheap and not the greatest but what can you expect for $10 new? It's a nice backup phone or for the kids. T-Mobile also has this phone in their online config site to easily set it up for T-Zones and multimedia text/email. The only downfall is the Cingular logos will remain. So far I haven't found any software or been able to use the Pantech sync software(cable costs $5) to change that. It's just a minor annoyance.

Also, if you used the codes above and are now stuck in "engineer mode", do this;

press top right button and red phone button together. this will reset handset back to main screen, then type *01763*3640#, then reboot the phone.

Oh Really?
Just order one and had the confirmation email received.
Although not expecting much when it jump from $5 to $10 and also
some said it could not "free" to unlock.
But still a good one for the kid

I received confirmation e-mails everytime I placed an order. However, about 5-10 minutes later, I'd receieve a cancelation e-mail. :\

CRAP !!!

I just ordered 3 and i received cancellation notice for one of my orders. Actually i created two orders, my first one i thought it did not go through since it gave me an error and i went and created another order. But i have received one cancelation notice. I hope they wont cancel my second one. Its OK phone for $10. Ill make someone happy with it.

Yeah. I got the same thing. My roommate lucked out and got a back order e-mail and one cancelation e-mail. He picked up three at least, assuming they're every shipped.
