I just bought a 17" Compaq Presario A909US (SKU 729360) from Staples B&M. It was on clearance for $399.50 and was the only one in the store. I'm not sure how hot this is, but it seemed fine to me.

SPECS:
-Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile T2330 (1.60GHz)processor
-Webcam
-120GB (5400rpm) hard drive
-2GB DDR2 SDRAM (2 Dimm)
-LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support
-Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
-17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)
-802.11b/g WLAN
-5-in-1 Digital Media Reader
-6 cell Lithium-Ion battery

You may want to call and check if it is in stock. It was not on display at my local store.

I gave you green for posting a great deal! This laptop sells for $699.90 at Staples (brand new), so OP's deal, although clearance model, is almost half the price! Please add "$399.50" in your thread title. This is a review I found for the laptop.

I'll pass on the deal because the laptop is too big and heavy for me, but it's a great budget entertainment notebook to watch DVDs and videos, and play games for media enthusiasts.

Thanks for the reminder--I've fixed the title.

For my needs, it fits the bill. It does come with several "Trial" software packages and something called "HP Total Care Advisor" which I'll have to get rid of, but everything is smooth so far.

May I ask which store location (store number and/or state) you bought them?

Thanks!

I don't know the store number, but the one I got was at Keizer Station in Oregon, it was the last one in stock.

Actually, it's transcendental.

Yeah, what a great deal. One person, the OP got it and no one else. But it was qualified with YMMV.
Just like saying $100 bills on the ground in parking lots across the USA YMMV.

At least OP was nice enough to post the deal.

The OP had no way of knowing what the supply was like -- kudos to him for making the effort to post. And learn to read -- at least one other person found 2 of these in a different state.

According to Staples phone order dept., the store in Santa Clarita, CA (Los Angeles area, just north of the San Fernando Valley) had two. I called (in this case it was worth it). I had them do a physical check. The lady said that "we have them." I had them hold one for me. I'm not sure if I will get it. They are holding it until 7pm. You may want to call them and see if they have more left. Other sites report people getting them, so it's not just the OP (and thanks for posting!).

One store showed to have two but when I got there, one of them has been sold --- although still on rack. the other is "damaged".

So, thanks OP for posting it. If I can be there earlier I could get it.
