caramelito said:Do you have any experience with the 'T Mobile prepaid: Pay as you Go' plan?

As today, you can buy a prepaid nokia cellphone with a $25 prepaid card for $19.99. I cant find the conditions on their website, but it seems that the $25 prepaid card allows you 130 minutes, and the phone remains active for one year.
Am I right on this?
Thank you!
I had Tmobile Pay2Go plan a couple of years ago. I bought the phone with the free card on their web site. Sometimes Target has the cards at a discount, so I bought 3 of the $25 cards and called Tmobile to add all 4 of the $25 cards at one time. That gave me instant Tmobile Gold Rewards and 1150 minutes, as I recall. I seldom used the phone and still had 980 minutes at the end of the year so I bought a $10 card from Callingmart dot com and got an extra year when I added that card. The third year I still had about 700 minutes but forgot to add a card until a day after the expiration. All minutes and gold Rewards disappeared, so be sure to add before expiration. When you add a card, you get a year from the date you add the card--not a year from your original expiration date with Tmobile.

You can put your Tmobile SIM card in any standard GSM phone and it will work (but not with tracfone phones).

Tmobile Pay2Go coverage is not the same map as for Tmobile prepaid phones. It is spotty at best, so if you travel it may not be good for you. I'm in Atlanta area and it was spotty here. It seemed to me that Pay2Go will not work on non-Tmobile towers. I could barely get service at my home. I got fairly good coverage around the city. I frequently traveled on I-85 North to Greenville, SC and it searched for signal almost the entire trip until I got to Greenville. Not very reliable for an emergency phone.

NOTE: Tmobile is a totally different company. You cannot get the above on a tracfone!

My CDMA LG200c Tracfone has a verizon signal and works well everywhere I go. Excellent coverage with it.

The local WalMart had the Motorola W260 with DMFL and accessory kit for $15 today. It's a Motorola kit, with mini USB style car charger and moto headphone and case (not the universal kit)

This could be local thing, as it doesn't seem to be on the website any longer.

Question:
If i buy (2) 200 minute cards with a DMFL phone and apply both of them immediately to my phone would that give me a total of 800 minutes AND a Year of service?? I ask after reading this blog:

[B]Buyer beware
Tracfone offers two cards that might seem attractive: their 800 minutes plus double-minutes and 365 days of service card, and their 400 minutes and 365 days of service card. However, these cards will end up costing you more in the long run.

Just to quickly demonstrate what we’re talking about, let’s look at the 400-minute card. It costs $100, and it can be doubled to be 800 minutes for $100. But when you look down and see the 200-minute card, you wonder how Tracfone gets away with it. For $40, you can get 200 minutes, or 400 if you double it. That means you pay $80 for 400 or 800 minutes. Uh, last time we checked, $80 was less than $100.

The same principle applies for the 800 minutes plus double minutes and 365 days of service card. If you buy the regular double minutes card, it’s $50. Then add on two 200-minute cards, which when doubled add up to 800 minutes. That’s $130, as opposed to the $140 you pay for the 800-minute card. The only disadvantage is that the service lasts for a year; if you’re using more than 70 minutes per month, but fewer than 130, that card could work for you. Otherwise, it’s a waste. Remember, four 200-minute cards gives you a year of service time.

So, Tracfone customers, have you been swindled by the company yet? Do you feed off their 400-minute and 800-minute cards, thinking they’re a value? Hopefully after reading this, you’ll start using those cost-friendly 200-minute cards and double-minute cards. After all, we’d hate to send a telecom more money than we have to.

Two 200 minute cards on a DMFL phone will get you 800 minutes, but just 180 days service.

This week Big Lots is selling the Motorola W260g (flip phone) refurbished for $8. Just got one and it looks pretty good.

I didn't know whether to create a new thread, or just post here. In Sunday's paper, Kmart advertised the Motorola W376g Tracfone for only $15 through November 14th. It has better sound and build quality than the LG600, but certain features are disabled by Tracfone that are functional on the LG600. As you probably know, the LG600 will be $20 on Black Friday. It's up to you whether quality is more important than bells and whistles. I chose the W376g.

Yeah, the deal on the W376 is as good as I've seen on a new phone (not refurb). Curious about the LG600 features that are available that are disabled on the W376. Can anyone clarify?

There are several articles and reviews online. This one should help:

I was just looking at the Big Lots add and they say different models that will vary by store. Does anyone know if these refurbs come with any minutes and has anyone seen any other models than W260g?

Only W260g (and plenty of them) at my local BigLots.
They are refurbished, but look like new. I got one, and it came with 20 minutes after the online activation.

Motorola 260G
One year activation
800 min.
DMFL
free Acecssory kit(code 88160)
$3 off(code 23444)
FW 17.5% CashBack=$24.50

Tracfone site=$139.99, after all bonuses= $112.50

CAN I DO ANY BETTER???
Maybe. You can get the 260G from WalMart with DMFL and a free accessory kit for $14.88 + tax and then find a discount deal on a 1 year 400 minute card. w260 at walmart.com

You can get a card on eBay for just under the retail price and pay no sales tax. I can get you one for retail and not sales tax.

Target has a sale on Net10
aitime until the end of the month. I do not know if it includes tracfone airtime also. The Net10
airtime is 10% off.

If the w376 refurb deal comes back you can get that deal for $16.99 + tax with the extra 60 minute card and then shop for a discount 1 year 400 minute card. And don't forget about the CashBack from FW.

If you buy the 400 minute card from tracfone online and get the 260G from WalMart and use the code 53544, you will get 1050 minutes and one year of service - is that correct? Also since the 400 minute card is $99.99 will you get Gold Status?

First, buy the phone from WalMart, THEN buy the minutes online...Technically, there is no "card" for on line purchases of time. You should get 1 year for the card, and an additional 60 days for activating the phone. There is no "Gold Status" that I have heard of for Tracfone.

No it doesn't work in Canada.

This may not be true. I found this thread that says tracfones do work on Rogers network (I'm assuming GSM tracfones since that is what the Rogers network is) in Canada, even though tracfone says they don't. I'm doing a trip to ID, MT and BC in January. Since my Virgin Mobile phone has no coverage in that area at all, I think I'm going to buy the refurb Motorola C139 to have something to use in case of emergency. I'll let you know if it works in BC when I get back.

You may get it to work there but if TC picks up on you using it out of the country they will probably shut your phone down.

My understanding is that they may shut you down after continuous use for weeks. I'm only going to be there for a few days and I won't be making many calls.

The dollar stores, Freds and Big Lots have Tracfones for as low as $8-10. If you can get by with 20 minutes, thats not much to loose.
Dollar General has an in store single sheet ad for new Tracfones; T101G or K126C bonus pack (DMFL and accesssory kit) for $10 each. Reverse side of ad is for $25 new Net 10
phones (T201G, 200C and 220C).

There is excellent Rogers service where I live in Eastern Ontario and my GMS Tracfone does NOT work here. No signal bars show and, of course, I cannot receive or make calls on it (nor add minutes etc etc). From Google searches it appears that at one time anyway CDMA phones may have worked until Tracfone cut them off. Don't know if the GSM phones ever worked but if they did, looks like Tracfone has closed the door on it. My GSM Tracfone phone will work in a few places if am very close to the US border (say within a mile or less) but only when I am picking up an AT&T signal from a US tower.

One could buy a T101G or K126C from Dollar General, then activate and add a 60 minute card with a 60 minute bonus code to it, then transfer the 200 minutes, and 150 days to another Tracfone, keeping the accessory kit, battery and etc. for your trouble. The question is, would this violate Tracfones harvesting policy, and trigger a shutdown?
