Maybe I'll try buying the 5.
EDIT: Hmmm, just like with the W370s, you can only order 1 phone at a time per order. And with buying just one, you don't meet the $25 minimum purchase requirement for the free Super Saver Shipping. So I would guess that you could buy 5 (the limit indicated on the rebate instructions), but you would have to buy them separately and buy something else on the same order for an additional charge of $10.01 to meet the free Super Saver Shipping requirement. Bummer.
EDIT #2: Nevermind. Although it says I am not eligible for the free Super Saver Shipping, the Standard Shipping is free again, like it was with the W370s. So I'm off to buy 5.
I thought I would post this for any Net10 users, or those wanting cheaper minutes.
How to get Net10 service for less than 3 cents a mintue.
Net10 has the refurb Nokia 1600 and an additional 300 minute card for $30.
The phone comes with 300 minutes and 60 days of service upon activation. You can then add the airtime card for another 300 minutes and another 60 days. Total of 600 minutes and 120 days for $30. That is half price of regular airtime and you get the free phone. That is 5.3 cents per minute calculating a 6% tax rate. They are still offering free shipping on $35 or more, so if you buy 2 of the deals you will get free shipping also.
And now How to get Net10 service for less than 3 cents a mintue.
Buy several of the Nokia 1600 refurb deals that come with the additional 300 minute card. using a 6% tax rate and free shipping this would be $31.80 per deal.
Sell the 300 minute cards on eBay for $29.50. After listing fees and final value fees this will result in a net loss of $6.80 cents on each deal, but you will still have the phone and the 300 minutes at activation. $6.80 / 300 = 2.26 cents per minute.
If you do this for several deals then every 2 months, or whenever you run out of minutes, you call Net10 and transfer the phone number and any remaining service from the old phone to the new phone.
I say do a transfer every 2 months because Net10 does not stack airtime like Tracfone does. This means if you activate 2 phones and call to transfer, they will transfer the 300 minutes but not the 60 days. So you will end up with 600 minutes and only 60 days on one phone. Tracfone recently changed their policy on stacking airtime and the is an indication that Net10 may also be changing but at this time there is no confirmation of this.
The airtime will stack if you do the transfer online. Gsm to cdma is easy, gsm to gsm transfer online is not very flexible.

Yes, use zip code 75701 and you can get it. What is your zip code and I can tell you if it will work in your area or read the first post in this thread.
grumpydamnit said: my zip is 16301. I read the first page before I posted, but still did not quiet understand if it would work in my area, sorry. Thanks for your help.
No problem, much of it is confusing to me. I only brought up the first page because I have seen folks that were uncomfortable posting their zip code. I hope you didn't take it as being snippy.
YES, that phone will work just fine for you, you're in a COGSM4 area, same as me.
CO Market = CDMA [such as Alltel] GSM4 Market = ATT
If we look at Jim's first post, these phones will work in your and my area, I'm in 75701.
grumpydamnit I forgot to mention, you will use another zip code like 75701 to order that phone, then change the zip at check out. You will most likely end up with Tracfone sending you a new Sim Card but they use DHL and it only takes a few days at no charge.
Okay, great! Thank you so much for your help. I got the GSM4 thing, but the CO in front of it threw me (although what any of it means is total greek). I didn't think you were being snippy . Thanks again for your help.
Enter the appropriate zip code in the space provided & confirm on the next page.
Add the desired item to your cart.
Edit the quantity if desired and proceed to checkout.
The zip code you originally entered will be pre-filled in your shipping address. Change the zip code to match your shipping address. When you submit this page it will ask you to confirm the zip code change. Choose YES. Complete your checkout.
Tell me what to do make it more understandable and I will fix it.
jimates said: JimBones said: jimates said: Note: Since the C261 is only $29.99, how can they offer it with a FREE Double Minutes for Life Card for $39.99.
Both the phone and the bundle have the same promotional code applied to it so you may be able to get the phone and the double minute card for 29.99 instead of 39.99. I'm not sure how that all works though. The promo for the phone with the free card shows the regular price of the phone to be $39.99. So the phone offer by itself must be an unadvertised special.
Net10 has a Father's Day bundle. Tracfone better hurry up or the orders won't arrive in time. The price of the phone has now gone up to $39.99, although you can still get a reconditioned one and a 120 minute card for $29.99.
For me, it was me not understanding, not your instructions. They are clear, I am sure. I just got confused on the whole COGSM4 thing, probably because I have no clue what it means, but the CO in front of the GSM4 for my area made me unsure. But for someone else with an ounce of understanding on it they are probably fine. I understood how to order, just not if it would work in my area.

When I go to the Tracfone phone order area, it pulls up the the Motorola C261 with a DMFL card for $39.99 (free shipping) and the LG 225 phone, which includes the DMFL feature (and accessory kit) for $49.99 (free shipping). I am leaning towards the C261 based on overall positive reviews on various sites, and some consistent negative feedback on the LG 225, notably its charging problems.
Both are camera phones (although I know this feature will be lackluster on both). Is the C261 the better Tracfone phone bundle?
Update on the Motorola C261 bundle with DMFL card.
I got this email today.
Dear xxxx: Just in time for Father’s Day, TracFone is offering customers a new bundle available for six days only!
Customers who purchase a Motorola C261 camera phone for $39.99 will receive double minutes for the life of their phone (a $49.99 value). This is currently the lowest-price bundle at TracFone.com that features Double Minutes! Additionally, this offer qualifies for free ground shipping.
The new Motorola W376g with bluetooth is now available for order from Circuit City. $49.99 w/ free shipping. Tracfone took this phone off their phones page last week and recently told someone it would not be available until next month.
Tracfone put the W376g on their site within the last hour. Includes Double Mintues for Life
It is available in the GSM4, GSM5 & GSM5AT markets. Also this is the first time Tracfone has offered a phone with data capabilities in the T-Mobile market, is this an error?
The model number at Circuit City is TFMTW376P4 The P4 indicates that it has a C4 sim card which is AT&T.
I think there is going to be some problems with this phone selling in the GSM5 markets.

Circuit City says it comes with DMFL.I am so anxious to use bluetooth, as I've never had the opportunity yet & I've got 2 brand-new BT earphones just laying around, but I'm tired of buying new phones and I'm just getting used to free txt msgs. Maybe if Ama zon puts a rebate on it.

I noticed a discrepancy in the amount of phone book entries it will hold. When you select the details page for the W376g from the Tracfone store, the phone is listed as being able to hold up 500 entries. On the phone details page you provided it says it will hold up to 100.
Now that the phone is out, I'm curious to see what they will do with the W370.

Isn't this the first time they have offered a phone that uses data services in a GSM5 area? Doesn't say anything about DMFL, so is Circuti City wrong? Correction, you have to look here to see the DMFL

Since they didn't list that or its other notable features, I'm thinking that possibly they wanted to reduce the stock of their other phones that are listed as DMFL... *shrug*

I think the CG225 is a better phone, but I am a biased flip-phone fan. The new W376g should be better than either since it's based on the W370 and adds camera and bluetooth headset.
The accesory kit with the 225 is very nice if you have multiple phones since the car charger comes with tips that fit all the current tracfone models. It also has Nokia and standard earbud headsets and a vinyl case.
Does anyone know if it's easy or possible to switch current tracfone number and minutes to a new phone? There is an option when activating a phone to use an existing tracfone number, but it doesn't say anything about bringing minutes over.

The service days and minutes will also transfer. The ease of the process depends on what type of phones you are transferring to and from.
GSM to GSM You have to transfer the number when doing GSM to GSM. If you want to only transfer the service and get a new number, or keep an existing number, you have to call Customer Service. You can not transfer to an active GSM phone online, the GSM phone you are transferring to has to be new or previously deactivated. Of course, compatible new sim cards are need in any situation.
GSM to CDMA If you want to transfer the number from a GSM phone to a CDMA phone the process could take several days to complete. If you only want to transfer the service and get a new number or keep an existing number on the CDMA phone, that is the easiest transfer there is to do.

If you want to only transfer the service and get a new number, or keep an existing number, you have to call Customer Service. You can not transfer to an active GSM phone online, the GSM phone you are transferring to has to be new or previously deactivated.
All number transfers between GSM and CDMA phones could take several days to complete and in the end could still require a call to Customer Service.
Be prepared at any time during the transfer to get a screen that says you have to call Customer Service in order to complete the process.
Note: When transferring online. Once you agree and confirm the amount of minutes and service days that will be transfered off of the old phone, that phone will no longer be active. You can cancel or exit at any time prior to submitting the agreement page and your old phone will still be active. There are occasions when the process does not complete after you submit that page. This means you now have a deactivated phone and a phone that did not complete the activation process. You have to call Customer Service if this happens.
Tracfone is now only offering the Motorola W370 in a Reconditioned phone. It still comes with DMFL and is priced at $29.99. A brand new W370 is not offered on the web site at all. The new ones are still available in retail stores.

I am kind of nervous about doing such a transfer, but the time has come. I have a Nokia with CDMA that I have used for six years, and plan to transfer the existing phone number and units to a new, unactivated GSM Tracfone. I am somewhat concerned about losing the 800 units and the couple of months of service left on it, but I REALLY am worried about losing my cell phone number of six years. Since it is a Tracfone, I obviously do not talk for hours at a time on it, but nearly everyone I know has this number and I really do not want some phone rep to lose the number. Any advice? Is there a good time to call? When I called the 800# this morning, the guy kept asking me for my "new" (?) phone number after I explained what I was calling for. I just hung up.
Is this something that I can do on my own, or is the website just going to refer me to the 800# after I am halfway through the process. This is why I have put this off for so long. I believe that I possess the bulkiest working cellphone in Arizona.
Actually, I think that I would prefer accented Indian tech support over the American-sounding guy I spoke with this morning. He simply did not understand that there was no "new" phone number in play in our discussion. Is there an ideal day/time to call?
I apologize if this should be a separate topic, but since transfers were being discussed, I thought that it would be OK.

I apologize if this should be a separate topic, but since transfers were being discussed, I thought that it would be OK.If at any time during the process you are referred to the 800 number, it will be before your old phone is deactivated. So you should be ok there. You won't loose any minutes or service days using either method of transfer.
If you call, try not to be too complex in your explanation of what you want to do. When you tell them what you want, they type that into their system and their system tells them how to proceed. So you have to be as basic as possible so they can come up with a procedure that fits. Tell them you are an existing customer and want to transfer your service to a new Tracfone, let them take it from there.
They do things is steps according to what their system tells them so we have to be one step ahead sometime. They always deactivate the old phone first. If you are transferring to a used phone you will need a new sim card, get one before you start the process. They will deactivate the old phone, then they will see that the "new phone's" sim card was used and will tell you they need to send a new sim. You will be without any phone until the new sim arrives and you call back to complete the process.
The online transfer/activation process has come a long way in the last few months. When it first became available you couldn't transfer GSM to GSM online. And it has also become a lot more stable.
azjack said: Actually, I think that I would prefer accented Indian tech support over the American-sounding guy I spoke with this morning. They would be accented Mexican tech support, since TracFone is owned by América Movíl, but just as difficult to understand. This is how fickle Tracfone is. I always have to send a question twice before I get a good answer.
I sent this to Treacfone the other day.
Issue Category: Phone Upgrade Specific Issue: Other Phone Upgrade Brief description of issue: You are now offering the Motorola W376g in the GSM5 market. I thought phones with data capabilities were not offered in T-Mobile areas, no other ones are. Has that changed or was putting the Motorola W376g on the phones page in the GSM5 & GSM5AT market areas an error on Tracfone's
This is the response I got.
We are pleased to announce that the Motorola W376 is now available. If you are in the market for a bluetooth enabled phone, the Motorola W376 would be a great choice. It also includes double minutes for life of the phone. If you are interested in that phone, please submit your order immediately (as supplies are limited).
Should you have any further questions or concerns, please contact one of our customer care representatives at 1-800-867-7183. For your convenience, our representatives are available Monday-Saturday from 8:00 AM to 9:45 PM EST, and on Sunday from 8:00 AM to 6:45 PM EST.
Thank you for being a TracFone Wireless customer. We appreciate your business.
Now that was the exact answer I was looking for. Maybe I should get one and try to activate it using a T-Mobile sim card in a T-Mobile zip. It would probably activate but not have the web capability and then I would have to call them and try to explain to them why it doesn't and why they should not sell it that way. It will probably come with a At7t sim card even if you buy it using a GSM5 zip.

You're probably right, but trying to explain their error to them will probably get you nowhere. Data capability only gets you access to TracFone content anyway, so it's no benefit to most people.

That part I have covered b/c of reading here and at other sites. The new phone is brand new, never used, out of the box, battery charged.
I will take your advice about over-explaining to the reps. Perhaps I was just unlucky this morning, because I was pretty succinct (at first).

Those are two options that would help sell me on this phone.
notice that market=CO is included in this URL. Going to the top of this thread and deciphering CO, you are in a CDMA only area. The W376g, thus will not work in your area!
I believe that you could use the W376g phone in your area with a different area code. The downside here is anyone calling you on a land line would have to pay long distance toll charges.
If this analysis is incorrect, one of the experts, please correct, my errors. TIA

This was an excellent answer and very correct.
This is why I have provided this information for all. The simple answer could have been a plain, No, it will not work. But the answer was provided with the minimal amount of source material to make it understandable, and for the person that asked the question to be confident that they received the correct answer. And to have the source material right here not only supports the correct answers, it also greatly decreases the chance of someone jumping in with a wrong answer.
Anyone can give a correct answer when provided with the source material needed. Benjamin Franklin did not have all the answers. He surrounded himself with many people that had knowledge in many, many different areas, thus providing him with a wealth of information that was readily accesable. I am no expert, I have just researched and gathered items and information that will support my answers.
I will add this for more in depth support. Tracfone's data services only work on At&t. If you look at the coverage map for At&t for that zip code it shows "partner" coverage. You can click on "partner" in the legend and this is what type of coverage At&t provides in that area.
PARTNER: The areas shown as an orange stripped pattern represent the coverage of unaffiliated carriers and should have sufficient signal strength for on-street or in-the-open coverage, but may not have it for in-vehicle coverage or in-building coverage. Excessive use of Partner coverage may subject your service to early termination, in accordance with your service terms. Data services may not be available. You may think the last part of that doesn't pertain but Tracfone can suspend your service for excessive use in a non partner area. They can make you change to a cdma phone.
T-Mobile coverage for that area is roaming on 850mhz. Not all phones support 850mhz use. And I still don't think the data services will work in a T-Mobile area.
Verizon coverage for your area doesn't look that great either if you get away from that exact zip code.
I saw your post on the other thread and this is the text rates for Tracfones phones. How much does the text messaging feature cost? Nokia 1112, Motorola C139, C261, V176, W175g, W260g, W376g LG 3280, 1500, CG225, 200C, 300G Kyocera K126C Rate: 0.3 to send, 0.3 to receive.
Nokia 1100, 2600, 3390, Motorola V170, C155 Rate: 0.3 to send, Free to receive.
Nokia 5100, 1221, 2285, 2126, Motorola C343, V60, 120 Rate: 0.5 to send, 0.5 to receive.
If your family has been using tracfone gsm phones and everyone is satisfied then another tracfone gsm phone may work just as well. But I am fairly confident that the data services will not work there and there is no way to get pictures off of the phone except email and you cannot add ringtones except through email or from the tracfone site. If you have to, get a W370 refurb for $29.99 because the camera phone is not going to work to your satisfaction.
We have been using Nokia 1100s and a Motorola V170--neither of them is supposed to work here. We did activate them with phone numbers from other area codes. They work great! So, that made me feel that the new Motorola would probably work here as well--if activated with another area code.
For my money, there is still nothing like the Nokia 1100. I love that phone!
Shelbyman said: How reliable are the Refurb phones? I am looking at the W370 refurb. I am not needing the Bluetooth and camera that the new W376 has on it. Thanks!
If it saves me money, I always buy refurb FIRST! Never had a problem.
