Its a decent phone. Nothing special but seems to get good reception and call quality seems ok too. Note you can't make free international calls on it though!

Make sure you get a V2, the V1 had some texting bugs.

Poo.. Thought I was going to use this to buy (5) new phones with 60 min airtime cards (I really just need the airtime cards for current Tracfone). Unfortunately, you can only order 2 phones per order, which only totals $40..

Then tried to use the coupon code to order $100 worth of airtime cards. Coupon is invalid for airtime card purchases.

How to identify V1 from V2 LG800G?

Does tracfone let you access the Internet and email? How much extra is it? Thanks.

foche911 said:   How to identify V1 from V2 LG800G?

On main screen tap (blue #4 dice) at lower right.
Tap (settings) at lower right.
Tap (phone).
Scroll down and tap (information) at bottom of list
Tap (device information)

Look at S/W version (soft/ware)
V10d = version #1 (original release)
V10e = version #2 (second/updated release)

Yes, with some models, but not every model is created equal. You must evaluate each model for its capabilities. Doing a lot of internet and e-mail on a Tracfone can become prohibitively expensive since Tracfone does not offer the cheaper large minute 30 day plans like Net10 and Straight Talk.

yakky said:   David301 said:   yakky said:   umm, aren't international calls free on tracfone anyway?

NOPE!

I LOVE when people post a dumb and WRONG answer with ZERO proof.

From tracfone's website @ http://www.tracfoneild.com/tracfone_ild.asp:

The only wireless service where you can call internationally for the same price as any other call.
Call over 60 international destinations directly from your TracFone at no extra cost!

Hopefully, you will find this a more useful answer:

Only some international calls are at no extra charge. Those that aren't included are most calls to cell phones in one of the 60 countries listed. Also, to answer the question about whether the tracfone could be used to call the US from an international location (e.g. a cruise or from Europe) the answer is NO.

Quick question: I have a friend with a Tracfone. Can I buy minutes for this phone, and have it be a pleasant surprise? I was noticing on the TF site that I can enter a phone number at the checkout.

Yes, but be sure you enter the correct area code and phone number and be sure it is a TracFone brand phone.

If it is some other brand of pre-paid phone, it may take your money and the friend gets nothing. There are no refunds. It must be TracFone brand and not Net 10 or Straight Talk, etc. if you are using the TracFone web site.

It is common knowledge that all Androids available right now from any Tracfone division run on Sprint. See my post of 1/19 for a high end Android that will run on T-Mobile. Do not confuse the 2X with the soon to be released black that will also be on Sprint.

Verizon blocks any Tracfone division from releasing a smartphone that runs on Verizon. Another reason to despise Verizon. Here are links to the phones running on Verizon. None of the more expensive non smartphone models have gone over very well with those who have tried them.

You'd get more help by posting this question on Howard Forums. There are a lot of people there who know about Tracfone/Straight Talk/Net 10 and could answer your question concerning phones from all 3. Also look at Page Plus you can bring a phone to that prepaid service and their service is solely run off Verizon.

I tried migrating my current phone with minutes and service to the AAA T301G tracfone with 1 year service and its been a complete nightmare.
First they zero'd out my original phone minutes ( which is normal)
Then they said my phone was active but would take upto 72 hrs to activate,No phone number yet.
Then CS tells me my minutes are only active for 90 days not 1 year.
Also lost 2 months of service from old phone , was difficult to communicate with CSs' scripted responses.
So now am stuck with a paid 1 year minutes dead weight phone.

Been with tracfone for over 6 years and never had a problem until now.

Any advice?

rated:

I've had their phones since they first hit the market. Best advice when you have a BIG problem is to just try again. Get another rep. If you get a rep. you can't understand, end the call. Sooner or later you get some articulate, helpful rep.

Have you been calling the regular CS number or the corporate office number? If you haven't called the TF Corporate number then try that, they can do a lot more then the regular CS who mostly read from scripts.

Hi,

I hope I'm posting in the right place! I've read this post on Tracfone and it's very helpful, along with the tutorial on getting a new SIM card. I'm hoping for a little advice on my situation. I have a Tracfone LG600 with an AT&T SIM that has always worked well for me. I bought my boyfriend an LG420G that came with a T-Mobile SIM and won't get any sort of signal around our house, even though the coverage chart says it should. Tracfone's legendary customer service is no help at all. If I get an AT&T SIM for him should that fix the problem? And if I do that using a zip code in an AT&T market area, will it still work in my zip code? My zip code is 98367 and I believe that's GSM5AT which is both T-Mobile and AT&T. If getting a new SIM card isn't the answer, how do I choose a phone for him that will work?
Thank-you for any help you can give!

It would have gone so much easier If you had asked before ever ordering.
When you put in your zip and the buy phones page appears, look up at the URL and look for GSM4 or COGSM4 (market) and you will be assured of AT&T service. If you see GSM5 or GSM5AT you will receive T-Mobile. If you use your zip and see the wrong market, simply change it to GSM4 and hit enter and you will go to that narket (and you will have the correct zip for shipping).

To get them to send a replacement AT&T SIM you must call from another phone and tell them you are unable to make a call (be aware they may try to call you and if you answer the phone or they even hear it ringing you have just ruined your chances of ever getting it swapped. They may ask how you got it activated or how you were able to use it for so long. Tell them you could only get it activated in the first place by driving all around looking for a signal and its useable on very few occasions. The longer you have used it the harder they will be to convince.

As a last resort, ask them how to return the phone because it is unacceptable like this. Then order again as I instructed.

If ever a call to regular CS is going bad, hang up and call again, hoping for a better CSR each time. Or call the better local Miami Corporate number so you will not even be forewarded to regular CS: 305-715-6500

Thank-you so much for the reply! When I ordered it (a whole ago now) I had no idea this could even be an issue, my phone worked so I figured we'd have a signal. I called CS at the time, wasted almost two HOURS of minutes jumping through their hoops, and got no-where. If I order a new phone from a different market area than mine, can I be sure it will work in my zip-code? How do confirm this?
Also, thanks for the corporate number! After my experience with their CS I will keep this handy!

They are constantly changing their markets. Always varify the market in your URL before placing an order, If your LG600 is on AT&T and you are satisfied then the LG420 will also work as well. After changing the market in the URL make sure you refresh/hit enter and actually go to the new URL or you will not get AT&T. You may want to find a zip code that if for the GSM4 market so that you can be sure of getting FatWallet CashBack. Are you sure what current GSM model you want to buy, if buying is your descision? The 420 has been a problem phone. You may want to ask for a recommendations here and at HOFO.

Ok, sorry to be so confused here, I really know so little about all this! If I'm reading this correctly you're saying that based on the fact that my 600 with AT&T works, either an AT&T SIM in the 420 OR a new phone purchased for a GSM4 market will work here. At this point ditching the 420 isn't a bad idea so I think I'll take your advice and ask for some recommendations on a new one. Thank-you!

If you find a good sale price locally, look within the model number on the white sticker on the bottom of the package. P4 = AT&T SIM and T5 = T-Mobile SIM.
