The annual Apple "Back to School" began: Students who buy a new Mac (not including Mini) will get (after rebate) a free iPod Nano (8GB) or a free iPod Touch (8GB) or $299 towards purchase of a bigger capacity iPod Touch. No discounts for Classic or iPhone. As a student you are also entitled to student discounts. For further details go to Apple.

Similar deal also in Canada.

Note this is not just for "students". Teachers and anyone who qualifies for the edu store can get the deal. Also you get an HP Photosmart C4280 FAR with purchase.

It is actually the $99 printer rebate on most printers, not just the HP... can apply the $99 rebate to lower the cost on more expensive printers. Keep in mind this is a rebate on both the iTouch and the printer, though Apple rebates are usually fairly painless, you have to pony up the $400 at the time of purchase.

Anyone care to speculate if they will use this program for iPhone discounts once they are released (most likely in the next couple weeks)?

I wonder if this will work with refurbs?

Refurbs have always been excluded in the past. The rebate form lists specific eligable models.

Yes, that's right. Go to the Apple Store and ask for a Big Mac, show them your student ID, and they will "Touch" you for free.

Can you get both a free ipot and a free printer? What if it does not show a free printer at my school website? How do you order it and get a free printer? I am interested in Macbook pro. Will the price go down or get a better deal that I don't need it for school until Sept.

10% restocking fee at Apple Store. It still might be worth it depending on how much you value your time and the hassle.

Actually, its a 14 day policy filled with caveats. Yeesh.

Apple Return Policy said:If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a product, please call 1-800-676-2775 for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) request within 14 calendar days of the receipt of the product. Configure-to-order, personalized or other customized products may not be returned for refund or exchange under any circumstances unless such product is Dead on Arrival (see the section below for more detailed information on such Dead on Arrival products). If the item is returnable and you send it back to us unopened in the original box, Apple will offer you a refund based on your original method of payment. You must return the product to the Apple warehouse within 14 calendar days of the issuance of the RMA. All products must be packed in the original, unmarked packaging including any accessories, manuals, documentation and registration that shipped with the product. Apple will assess a 10% restocking fee on any opened hardware or accessory. If you purchased your order using an Apple Business Lease, Apple may ask you to provide a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) so Apple can assess the 10% restocking fee.

Why would you do that with the WWDC on June 9th?

Now I just have to decide whether to get this deal or go for the cheaper refurb or student developer price and no ipod
or buy from Amazon and save on tax, but no ipod

How much of a discount do you get for Student Developer?

Last time I looked an extra $200 from the regular student price on a MBP (of course you have to pay $99 to become a student developer..so it's really a $100 savings) and a pretty nice price on the Mac Pro...but then no free Touch or Nano.

I'm similarly bummed, I bought a new iMac at their education store a week ago to get the Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium for $399 deal. I could have gotten a fee iPod Touch as well if I had waited.

(Edited to add: Screw you, Toper!)

Any idea when this offer is over? (looked it up couldn't find it anywhere on their site)

I don't start school for almost another 4 months and I'm wondering if I have to fork out the dough pronto or if I can wait a little to have more wiggle room for the extra expense previous to receiving my rebate check back. I'm getting a 2.4Ghz macbook (w/4gb ram upgrade).
