This new rumor also makes the decision harder. I think I'll end up going for the 40gb...

Destructoid

Of course. A PS3 game will look better. But ever since firmware 1.80, the PS3 has been able to upscale not just DVDs, but PS1 and PS2 games as well. My PS2 games look better played through my PS3 than they do played through my PS2.

What I meant is the same game played side by side on a PS3 (PS2 version and PS3 version), can you tell which one is the PS3 version? I understand that you are saying a PS2 game looks better when played on a PS3, but is it as good or close as a PS3 game?

Games designed for PS3 look better than games designed for PS2. In general. There are some ugly PS3 games, and some very pretty PS2 games. But the vast majority of time, PS3 will look infinitely better. Its like watching HD vs SD on a TV.
And PS2 games do look better when played on the PS3, just not as good as PS3 games.

Is that so?

I thought the 80 GB PS3 is discontinued long time ago?!

dhho1: a new issue of the 80gb is scheduled to be released on the 12th.

on a side note, has anyone heard about whether the BB pricematch on the regular 40gb bundle will work on the 80gb bundle? seems like it should apply. i have some graduation gift cards to use.

according to this thread:

in-store promotion, at checkout use offer/coupon code 6867688. a manager will be called over, and most of them are already aware of the internal offer by now.

Not true. To say Never is a bit extreme yes?

Okay 99.9% of the time but it really is closer to 100%.

Well I just got a WalMart sales booklet in the mail today. It says on the front cover "Father's Day is June 15". At the bottom of the front cover it says "Event dates: Sunday, June 8-Sunday, June 15, 2008."

Inside on page 4 it shows the 40GB PS3 for $399 with the $100 Wal-Mart gift card bonus.

THERE IS NO MENTION OF THE 80GB PS3 ANYWHERE IN THE SALES FLYER.

So, according to this ad either the 80GB PS3 will not be available during those sale dates (see my previous note about WalMart never having anything on release date) OR the 80GB PS3 is not eligible for the gift card.

Did you even look at the page you just linked to? It was posted in 2006, and even the original author who posted it edited it and said the glitches have been fixed since firmware 1.5, which is pretty old now.

Why is there always so much misinformation in PS3 threads? It's simply unbelievable how half of the posts will always be about things other than the actual deal posted.

That said, I'm hoping for the Amazon pre-order today because I hate Wal-Mart. After taxes the $100 gift card really only nets me enough for one game or so, and I'd really rather not deal with that place just for that.

OP:
"" QUOTE ""
1) Ask them to sign into their gemini/telezon (new name is Gemini while the old name is Telezon).
2) Tell them to click on item management (might be product management)
3) Tell them to go into perpetual inventory.
4) Have them either type in "71171980110" for the UPC on the first line OR have them type in "543198" for "Item"
"" UNQUOTE ""

Stopped in at my local Wal-Marts (Littleton, CO) and ask them get me info on item 543198 and they told me this item is dicontinued and no longer available. Interesting since it doesn't come out until next week.

I got that message as well. I got to the homepage without a problem, but when I tried to get to a ps3 page I kept getting the same message.

I'm very curious to know if anyone has ever pm'ed with a GC offer before. I'm almost definitely going to get my PS3 bundle at midnight at BB (I have almost a grand in gift cards!) but wouldn't mind the extra $100 back. I just find it very unlikely. I'm not doubting/questioning the quick summary info on using coupon code 6867688, just curious as to how this is confirmed?

Daniel, not sure what you mean about how this in-store coupon code offer is confirmed, but many people on that other forum have had luck getting the gift card price match offer. There does seem to be an element of luck in the process though. I guess you can always try going there before hand and speaking to customer service, or even a manager about using the code on the 40gb version.

Thanks murkin, I asked BB about price matching and they said they would only price match the standalone console but NOT THE MGS4 BUNDLE. I'm assuming this is because the bundle hasn't been advertised by WalMart...

In other words, the good news: BB is price matching the WalMart GC offer. The not so good news (potentially good): they will not pm until WalMart advertises the MGS4 bundle as a qualifying bd player eligible for $100 gc.

If anyone sees this, please post it, thanks!

alert mods

It hasn't been confirmed that BB will have the bundles at midnight launch.
Make sure you contact your local BB to see if they will have them if you are planning to go

alert mods

I haven't found any info on the bundle being available during the midnight launch of mgs4, but a search online (exact search was: bestbuy ad scan june 8) brought me to the sd website. image 18 on the flickr post shows the bundle at bb as available on thursday the 12th (subject to vendor delays). BB SKU# for the PS3 MGS4 bundle will be 8844389. still no actual advertisement for WalMart though.

side note, how is it that Amazon is still down?!

alert mods

Don't count on BB PM'ing WM and giving you $100 GC if there's 100 other people in line for the same thing.

alert mods

Anyone have a full scan of the mailer btw?
