tune in to those channels that are the Premium Choice Channels that weekend and enjoy them FREE!!
PS. Those would normally be grayed out on your TV Listing of channels.

Thanks OP! I love freeview weekends...set the dvr to record a ton of movies and enjoy for months on end

Got it. Thanks, David. And thanks to you, too, zimzim.

Thanks OP

carefull on the skinemax, especially after 10

Skinemax is impossible to watch after one or two movies - same actors, no plot, bad sex scenes.

Sounds like 99% of what Hollywood puts out in the last 100 years. Hitchcock is gone, Welles is gone, Kubrick is gone. Scorsesce last time? Goodfellas The Departed maybe. Spielberg Schindlers List Amistad.

Two or three movies a year worth watching. The rest are junk.

Unless you have a non TiVo POS DVR. They'll NEVER get those DVR's to work correctly!

Sounds like a personal issue to me. Our HR21-700 is now about 4 months old, and can't say enough good things about it. Can't wait for DirecTV to start offering more On Demand programming.

I have Comcast Digital Cable. Last time they did this I got them free as well though I get HBO and Showtime anyway. I watched Max all weekend for free. Others on a similar thread to this said the same.

I've got the R15 (the new DVR non-HD) and it works, but i'm with everyone on how slow it is and the poor menu navigation system.

free channels are nice though.

You won't get it if you subscribe to the Family Package

are any of the regional sports channels included in this or is it just movie channels?

Yes. you'll get the all the HD channels in the freeview as well.

Thank you for the heads up. I appreciate this.

Then you never used the old TiVo-based DVR that DirecTV had a few years ago. The HR20 and 21 are terribly slow and glitchy in comparison.

We used the ones with TiVo extensively (and still have two of their units), and while it took a little while to get used to the new interface and the lack of buffering dual-tuners, we have all agreed that the new HD-DVR's are for the most part excellent machines. Both of our HD units have eSATA enclosures added on to them for additional storage, so we really can't complain at all.

Yes, I loved the old TiVo menu and it's snappiness, but it had plenty of quirks too w/DTV (promised features never delivered in particular).

erm...seriously?!?!

Agreed, movies are very cheesy. We spend most of the time laughing. However, I have to ask you--since when is a "plot" a prerequisite for porn? I prefer no plot myself...

.

Is this simply plug and play or are there instructions on how to add this additional storage? I've googled and haven't found instructions for this...

With the enclosures that work (and not every one does), it is simply a matter of plugging it in and restarting the DVR.
We used 750 gig hd's inside of Antec enclosures.

DBS Talk Forums is the best place for information on how to do this, what enclosures to use, etc.

where did you get this info from? just curious

I am wondering about this myself. I have an HDTV, but am still stuck on regular cable. Some channels look so bad with cable, that it hurts my eyes...

Yeah. "Cmon quit f*cking and get on with the show!"

Thanks for the heads up. My DVR is almost empty from the last Starz free weekend they had recently

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the tip. Received a $25 off $75 from Staples today, Needed the bubble wrap ($9.99), but wasn't quite sure if I was going to use it. Found a Brother P-Touch for $9.99 MIR, printed out the Fry's web site showing the Antec MX-1 for $29.99, easy PM, threw in some candy to get over $75 and was out the door with tax for just over $54, minus the $20 MIR.

Contacted DirectTV Customer Service yesterday. They had "no information regarding a free preview weekend".

Came in the email today.

after googling this offer, I came across this site: free preview. They list all free previews for all providers.

For what ? There's still nothing on !

I pay for HBO & SHO anyway. I scanned the guide when I first saw this post, hoping I'd find something I wanted. Even for free I can't find anything to record.

Can someone suggest anything to record this weekend ?

Please, make me wrong !!! I dare you -
