valleypoboy said: 1mb cache adds between 2% to 5% more speed (5 is probably WAY high, 2 to 3 is more realistic, but to avoid people nagging me that in one test on the moon such and such happened...), so not a LOT and usually not worth the extra $ unless you're a scientist and number crunching 24/7/365.
thanks for the info I was looking for. I was biased to think that more cache is more fast processing power. now I kenw that is not the fact. being on FW I want to stretch my $$$. from what I have seen even if C2D with allendale and a medicore mobo AMD wins for the price/performance. I need few things on the mobo like firewire etc. |

Got the shuttle from Frys yesterday. It looks good. However, it does need additional audio cable for the digital optical output, can anyone give advice what's the correct name for this cable and where should I buy it, etc.? Many thanks! |

Hmmm... looks pretty good! How would this stack up to an e2180 (1.8GHz) running at about 2.8GHz? |

I think there are other etailers that may sell them cheaper. I don't use optical connections but I wish I did. It's good to be rich and spoiled, I have a feeling you are of the F gender. Don't we all? FW tends to make me spend more than I save though...

Read my post at bottom of page 1.

Many thanks! whiteboi linked a toslink cable on Newegg, so I'm guessing it's toslink you need. For cables 99% of the time you can save big $ buying from monoprice. Of course if you're just getting 1 cable shipping could throw the whole deal off, but the shipping from them is usually reasonable. They have these cables for $2 and change on up... depending on length and quality of connector. |

Thanks for your reply! However, that's not the one I want, it might be my inaccurate description. The actual one I was refering to is the one connecting to the SPDIF1 slot on the motherboard, the other end has the optical interface port where my optical cable can be connected to my audio receiver. (I do have the optical cable, just want to buy the above mentioned cable, so that my build PC can create true digital dts/dolby digital surround sound when playing DVD disc. Thanks! You are asking for the SPDIF bracket. Middle picture Not too easy to get. At your purist level, you might as well skip the onboard sound and buy a discrete, high end card like this one. It has all the connections you want and need. It is expensive. Not sure what kind of master recordings you are listening to, some of my CDs recordings are crap. Link |

This may be what you need (it's also in the middle of the page of products linked earlier). It connects the motherboard SPDIF header (6 pin) to external input and output jacks mounted in perforations in the Shuttle case. The SN68G2 appears to have those perforations on the back. |

If you can use a coaxial cable to connect to your receiver, this might solve your problem (I have just ordered one for my Biostar T550 MB, I will let you know if it worked). I paid $6.30 with free shipping. For optical connection, I have only found this seller on eBay with something that might work for you. You are going to pay a little more, though. |
