**Disclaimer - I have not confirmed this is available elsewhere. I doubt many people are looking for this type of motherboard, but for those that are this could be a pretty decent deal.

I was at the San Diego Fry's looking for a different MB to put one of my Q6600 into (the ECS this one came bundled w/ only has 2 RAM slots and 2 SATA ports(I need 6 SATA ports for my 3.5TB thanks to all the great deals posted here)) and I saw they had the Abit AB9 Pro motherboard. The shelf listed at like $129 and I was considering it when the clerk near me mentioned it's on clearance. The standard looking sticker on box says only $49.90. The PLU is 4924211.

There are tons of reviews for this board on the web, mostly good.
Reviews at Newegg - http://www.Newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127004

This board has been out for a while, but for someone looking for a cheap board this may be the right fit (including many core2duo and quad). Of note, it has:
2 x gig Ethernet ports !
9 x SATA 3.0 GB/s ports !
10 x USB 2.0 ports !
1 x eSATA
2 x 1394a
7.1 audio (wasted since I'm gonna use it as a file server)

Potential issues for some:
only supports up to DDR2 800
P965 express chipset
certain Newegg reviews say some memory doesn't work w/ it. I stuck 2 pairs of 1 GB sticks (fm deals here) in w/ no issue.

Let others know if you see it at your Fry's.

I've been using this mobo since it came out, very good. A bit old now, so there are many better ones out there.

What BIOS version did it have out of the box?

These are *extremely* YMMV depending on location. They're usually marked with a *BRIGHT RED* price card (versus the typical yellow ones) signifying they are on clearance.

Nice find though. Good luck to everyone else.

this board will not support the quad core Q6600. It's an older chipset.

According to Abit's website and some forums I've seen, this does in fact support the Q6600.

Wrong. I am using it with a Q6600.

is this new or open box?

I'm running a Q6700 in it right now. It supports every Core 2 chip except for the QX9775 which requires the skulltrail 771 socket chipset.

Yeah, actually I have a Q6600 in it as mentioned in orginal post. I think I got BIOS rev 16 out of the box, and then put it to the latest .. like 21 (since some people mentioned RAM issues on Newegg w/ OCZ Gold though mine hasn't had issues before or after.)

A lot (not all) of P965 chipset boards didn't orignally have quad core support but then were able to use them once a BIOS update came out.

Yeah, strange, there was no special price card, but that could just be someone at Fry's not doing their job.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm pleasantly suprised w/ the RAID performance. There are 3 RAID controllers. I'm expecting the Intel to have the best performance, but I need to move some files around before I can test that out. To do that, I have 2 Maxtor 750GBs in RAID0 on the second controller (JMicron), and I'm getting 130 MB/s writes from other volumes (music and videos) w/ no experimentation and no Windows write caching enabled (though I'll enable it now to see if improves). If someone has this board and does better on that second controller let me know what settings you're using. I'm using 64 KB clusters (NTFS) and 64 KB blocks for striping.

Using Win2003 Server btw.

I run OSX86 10.5.2 on it without any problem ---- OSX sees all 4 cores. Parallels run under OSX86 as well (except Boot Camp). Much cheaper than a Mac Pro. A screamer to convert DVD into MKV/H286.
