Always try to use self checkout and buy something else like candy bar and drink. When the self checkout screams "ONE CENT" as you scan it, make a loud coughing noise. Luckily my HD has the volume turned down pretty low.

WaterPik product: I'm guessing on this one

Hi Tonyoo, I am totally new to these .01 deals. Can someone explain how this works? I've searched for those item numbers, but can't find them at homedepot site. Are they higher in store, and then ring up as .01 at the register?

My advice is to do some scouting. Try to find a time when the store - especially the self checkout, is busy. That way while the attendant is helping some mope that doesn't know he has to scan the bar code they most likely wont overhear the machine scream ONE CENT!. As others have said, buy some other smaller stuff too. Also be aware that the checkout machine may call for an attendant when you scan the item. I had that happen to me and they ended up offering it to me for the lowest clearance price on the box - which I politely declined. You basically just have to try it and see what happens. But, it's always best to do it while the self checkout section is busy - or when the attendant steps away for a while.
