It looks like they updated the join page to now clearly show ZipCar said:This program is open to a select number of participants in each Zipcar city except London. We will be selecting up to 30 participants at random from all qualified applicants who apply before July 9, 2008. So 30 people nationwide will get in on this deal. It sounds very similar to a promotion the competing non-profit PhillyCarShare start running last month http://www.phillycarshare.org/74/promos/walk-ride-share.php |

giedrys said:allen074 said:dont forget that if you are a member of the freelancers union (free to join) you can get better hourly rates during the week - you have to add the freelancers union account to your account - pretty simple.
in nyc - normal rates are 10.25-14.25/hr during the week and the freelancer rate is $8/hr - pretty sweet!
How do you add freelancers account to you account? I don't see that option. i just emailed them under "contact us" and they did it for me. you do have to be a member of freelancers union because the union have to approve you. once approved it will say that in the "me" section of zipcar website. they also charged me another $25 annual fee. had to call them to for them to refund me my original $50. great deal too since most of the cars are $8/60 on weekdays except the bmw. the mini which is normally 89 is 60. |

I contacted customer service. here is the reply. No credit till Jul 21st. Thank you for applying to the Low Car Diet. Participants are still being finalized and that process will continue to take place through July 10. At that time, we will notify all participants of the Low Car Diet kickoff event and grand finale event, along with other important information regarding the Low Car Diet. Because the Low Car Diet is an event that takes place July 21 through August 15, your driving credit will not appear until July 21. ap286 said:same here. anyone talked to customer service yet?

Thank you for applying recently on the Zipcar Low Car Diet account. As you may know, this account is reserved for 30 residents of the DC area who will be giving up their cars for a month for our Low Car Diet starting on July 21. Unfortunately, we have already selected our 30 participants, so I'm afraid you will not be able to join Zipcar on this account. Would you like me to switch you to a regular Zipcar account with the Occasional Driving Plan? The fees associated with that account are a $25 application fee and a $50 annual fee. If you would like to still apply for membership at this time, I'll add a driving credit of $75 to your account that would be good for the first month of membership. Just let me know by 5 pm tomorrow (Wednesday) if you would like to take advantage of this offer, and I will switch your account over. Otherwise, your application will be rejected and account closed.

Hey hellyea81, We apologize for any inconvenience. Although we are offering $75 in driving credit, this does not apply towards our $25 application fee, as well as the $50 annual fee. The $75 driving credit, however, is meant to offset these fees. Thanks so much for your interest in Zipcars, and have a great day. The Zipcar Chicago Team |

I got an email yesterday telling me I was approved and asking if I could attend the kickoff event for DC. It probably helped that I was sincere in my application about giving up the car, and I mentioned that I have started biking to work in an effort to reduce my car use. I do think they should have made it clearer that they were only accepting 30 people to do this, but I am glad that I was lucky enough to be picked as one of them. |
