I go by the rule you can never expect greatness for bargain basement prices. When you find above or around average for bargain basement, you've done pretty well. I'd say this around average for close to bargain basement.
Green for you.

I've got acer 5420-5687, LOVE IT!!!! paid 499, only con is sound, use money you save and buy external speakers. JBL on sale at Amazon right now for $39.
I use the travelmate 5520 at work, which is basically the same shell and hardware, but has an a turion chip in it. Its a decent laptop, and for the price, this is a nice buy. If I may rant for a second, I am still annoyed to no end that Newegg has started to charge tax in ny. [end rant]
Just a warning, Acer's website really sucks. Half the time, the website crawls, and/or does not work when you need to get drivers. I update the systems at my job, and acer's website is without a doubt the most unfriendly. In fact, I just tried right now to see if I could access the drivers page to see if they had stuff for XP (which I plan to reload), but the site was down.
Also, there is a tremendous amount of bloatware, and very crappy bunch of acer tools installed with your notebook. My best suggestion is to download all the drivers you will need from their website (when its working), format drive, reinstall OS, and reload drivers. Your system will run 10x better, no joke.
Good deal for me, green for u!

Be sure to write your state legislators and let them know you appreciate the law they passed for this purpose. Other states will soon follow their lead, so thank them for us, too. ![]()

the extensa's don't come with any bloatware nervegrind3r. they were originally built to be business notebooks. it comes with few MS trials and Cybermedia and NTI dvd/cd copy and that's it! and yes acer support sucks.
google ftp+ acer and browse the ftp site. I'm running XP now with all drivers working. I researched the latest acer sold with XP and downloaded from that models drivers.

I agree. Thanks a lot.
nervegrind3r said:yes, the Lenovo beats it, and you will pay more in turn. The Lenovo a mid end system with faster cpu and more memory, but it will cost you $800 + tax out the door, and then $200 in mail in rebates.
The acer is a low end system @ $415 shipped (untaxed state), or $450 shipped with tax.
This physically looks like a higher-end notebook. I'm impressed from the pictures. Battery-life is the only Achilles' Heel, but that is true for all of the $400 deals.
since when does Newegg chagre Tax for new yorkers ?
