I wouldn't use it for that. I currently use a WD7500AAKS in quiet seek mode on my DirecTV HR20 and it messes up at times, seemingly due to the access times (it didn't happen in fast seek mode). Note the 7500AAKS is a lot faster than this drive. A 5400rpm drive like this will have an even longer access time and thus is likely to show even more problems.
If anyone cares, here's how to see the problem I see:
Put a WD7500AAKS in an external eSATA case. Set to quiet seeks with Hitachi drive tool.
Connect it to a DirecTV HR20/HR21 PVR.
Begin recording an MPEG-4 HD show and an MPEG-2 HD show (OTA locals or an HD channel in the 80s/90s channel range).
Watch the MPEG-2 show as it records. Pause it and rewind at some point. Now return to the point in the MPEG-2 show that was being recorded when you rewound. Note it has created a glitch in the recording.
This is a good drive for many uses. Use in an HD PVR is not one of them.
Sorry about the $110 comment, I guess I was thinking of 750GB drives.
