so is this going to support 1080p on hdmi? I didn't understand your mention of the two different models, do you have to check it when it arrives?

update: just read the description from the site, and still don't understand. it's not a native 1080p, but rather an upscaled 1080p?

TV geeks, does this matter? seems like a great deal

the model page linked says it won't accept 1080p. It has to deinterlace the 1080i to display it however as the screen itself is progressive.

i dont know too much either, but from what i gather, the hdmi and component inputs are limited to 1080i. not sure why they even mention 1080p, maybe it works in the future with broadcast 1080p? seems too good though at 800 bucks for a 47 inch.

This was one of the sets sold by Costco I believe and there was a big discussion on it. The TV upconverts everything to 1080P and will only accept up to 1080i through the inputs.

The native resolution of every 1080 panel is 1080p.. regardless of what the inputs take. Some manufacturers insist on noting that.

there's a lot of discussion on this tv across the web, and it was at costco for $1800 new, and granted that's for a NEW set, and costco warranty, but for $1000 less, i want to jump -- anyone have anything bad to say about Philips refurbs?

update: item is factory renewed

Philips said:# Factory-renewed - A factory-renewed product has been out of its original carton and may have cosmetic imperfections. All factory-renewed products have been tested to meet Philips' quality standards. A factory-renewed product carries a 90-day limited warranty from Philips. Factory-renewed products are exclusively found at the Philips Electronics Outlet Store.

Philips refurbs from Philips website are a mixed bag with a lot of people getting DOA items. I bought a 30" CRT 3 yrs back and I got a good one has been running fine till now. There was one more thread here where people bought a bunch of LCD HDTVs refurbs and some had horrible experiences. I think their warranty is only 90 days and in some cases you have to take the TV to the authorized repair shop urself. So make sure there's one close by if you ever needed. Best of luck to all you guys who want one. I am looking for a deal for a new LCD, I missed out on the HP friends and family sale..

I went ahead and bought one, I'll report back. What's the process of RMAing the unit? I'd like to hold the UPS guy before signing for it, but I guess that's not a possibility

Its easy to RMA or refused the shipment. They deliver by Eagle Logistic (CEVA). The delivery guys are a mixed bag. My 1st 50" plasma was delivered and set up for me to test 20-30 minutes. Couple monthes ago my 47" was deliver and I have to do everything by myself?!! they just stand and watch-dawn you guys-I don't want to say it but race could have been a factor. If I have to do it again I'll make them unbox and set it up for me-as Phlips is paying for white glove delivery for 42" and bigger, and you chipping in $30 instead of the free shipping. They have to set it up and you tested it b4 signing that paper certify that it is in good working order, if not refuse it.

My 2 big screen orders from them work out great. The 50" plasma has a few scratches in the back but no biggie. The second is almost perfect with only dust on the screen (almost 0 hours of usage-I checked after 2 days of breaking in and extensive TV watching /testing and there was less than 20 hours). I heard terrible stories with them but my orders are fine. I'll ordered again if there's a bargain like my last time Full 1080p 47" LCD for $750.

I have bought two 50" TV's from them with no problems, well, I say no problems, but I did notice when I switched from component cables to using just an HDMI cable the one in our bedroom has a picture that is slightly left and leaves a green line on the right of the screen.

Does anyone know if these Phillips TV's have a screen movement/adjustment feature like a computer monitor?

I have had the TV's for over a year (maybe two) now and they both still work great.

My in-laws did have a problem with their first delivered TV being busted up, but Phillips (or the shipping company) got it replaced for them right away with a model that has worked great for them.

You can adjust the screen by using the arrow keys on most Philips sets. This should take care of the problem!

Last Phillips HDTV I owned died within 3 years, with very occasional use. I had a very difficult time finding anyone to work on Phillips due to slashing of the labor rates they pay for warranty work... I won't buy another Phillips TV.

1080p native resolution, but it won't accept a 1080p input. That's rather odd.

I posted a few long posts on slickdeals about it... but it really isn't. Any LCD that has 1920X1080 resolution is technically a 1080p display itself because almost all LCDs refresh progressively. However most can also accept a interlaced signal such as 480i or 1080i and deinterlace it. Having the ability to ACCEPT progressive 1080 input signals requires more momentary bandwidth and a higher quality input.

Thanks OP, good find.

One of the lowest prices I've seen on these in a while, thanks!

Had a refurb 37" Philips for 2 & 1/2 years and finally died
last month. Power supply or board went out.
