If you still want the original firmware, you can set up your player for dual boot (either Rockbox or Sansa). "Yes" to your second question. |

"Yes" to your second question. I am pretty sure you still need the original firmware to load music on the internal flash memory unless rockbox has completed their USB stack. I haven't updated my Rockbox for a while so maybe they have but 3 months ago it was still underdevelopment. |

I received mine about a week ago and it's been great... I bought it mainly for Overdrive Media audiobooks from my library so I can't Rockbox it, though I might do it in the future. Right now I'm happy with it. I've already filled it up with TV episodes and audiobooks. I went back to froobi today to buy another one as a gift for my mother in law and it seems the Rockbox coupon is dead. Reading this forum, it seems the coupon comes and goes so I hope if i keep trying daily, it might come back. Thanks OP! Green for you. |

See the manual. 3.1.3. Starting the original firmware Rockbox has a dual-boot feature. To boot into the original firmware, press and hold the Left button while turning on the player. |

TheDuk... Thanks! I've heard about dual booting with Rockbox. It's really tempting now that you mentioned it again. But I will have to gauge my usage after a month or so. I don't think I have bought any gadget in the past two years that I haven't either flashed or hacked (sometimes just for the challenge but not necessarily needed) so this is definitely bugging me. It sounds like a weekend project. Gotta go... I just found out about a wootoff. |

Was out of stock for a little while. Back now. $15 off still good. Have to wonder if maybe 2GB model for $30 is a better deal when you can just expand either with the micro-SD cards... |

In my opinion, you're better off getting a model with the most onboard memory you're willing to spring for. Especially since the price differential on these refurbs is often only $20-$30. At least with the factory firmware, using an SD card increases the startup time of these players significantly since the player has to scan the "external" card at each boot just in case you loaded files onto it. It's great to have the option for "infinite" expandability, but I find that I don't use the SD card option much since I don't like having to wait an extra 30-60 seconds each time I turn it on. |

Got mine a week ago & love it so far... replaces my iriver 256mb unit. Love Rockbox & its game feature & other apps as plugins! Still learning how to use all the features, and only a couple drawbacks compared to my ol' iriver ifp790: no line-in for ripping from analog sources; proprietary battery limits range-must be near a usb port to recharge periodically. Otherwise, I like it with the expanded feature set. Read that Sansa was 1st mfcturer to endorse Rockbox & promoted it! Thanks for the heads-up on this deal. |

Got a e280 8Gig a few months back. The sansa records wav files, so kind of large files. But with it ROCKBOXED you can record in mp3 format directly. Very small files (30 minutes = ~25MB). Records from FM and mic with rockbox just like sansa OS. Great sound from mic or FM (my opinion fwiw). |
