This is my first post, so please be kind ..

I know that ppl might say that Vonage is currently not the cheapest VoIP service provider out there.
However, I have been a satisfied Vonage customer who signed up for this deal when they had the $175 MIR + free PAP promotion at CC last Fall.

Today, I was actually calling 1-866-243-4357 just to request a month of free service because my other Vonage account got it when I tried to cancel.

To my surprise, the CSR said that they are currently doing a 6-month promotion for Unlimited plan for $5.04 less than what I am currently paying ($14.99/month).

He offered the $9.95 monthly rate for 6 months plus 1 free month in addition to that.

I asked the CSR to do the same on my other account, and he applied the promotion to that account no problem.

Here's what it says on my Vonage's online Billing page:

Rate Plan Information:

Rate Plan: $9.95 Residential Premium Unlimited 6 Months Step Up Plan
Rate Plan Start Date: Jun 26, 2008
Rate Plan End Date: Dec 11, 2008
Rate Plan Renewal: $24.99 Residential Premium Unlimited Plan

Hope this helps fellow FWers who are currently using Vonage's service.

Since only the Account Management department has the capability to modify our monthly rate, I would recommend to call them at 1-866-243-4357 tomorrow morning. To get the deal you would need to say that you want to "cancel the service". Seems like they need us to verbally mention that we intend to cancel before they have the authorization to change the rate.

It is not a huge savings, but I am happy to save (6 x $5.04 + $9.95)+tax.

Good luck .

anyone know of any deals for new sign ups right now? I am currently with italkbb because we make a lot of international calls. I've give a 80-85% on call quality, because it works well most of the time, but there are times it just doesn't work so well. I just noticed that Vonage has international calling plans now...and wouldn't mind trying it

So after the 7th month, will my plan to continue to remain the unlimited 14.95 per month or will it become 24.95/month?

you go on $24.95/month plan (which you can pre-pay for $239.00 per year - a 20% discount)

I called Vonage they offered me 2 free months and after that $24.99, or the first 2 months for $9.95 and after that $24.99. I asked about $9.95 for 6 months and one month free but they said no.

Its an easy go. No problems in switching to $9.95 with one month free.

Called in and they said they did not have that promotion. I am at their regular pricing plan of 24.99 per month, so maybe it had something to do with your legacy rate plan.

edit:

I decided to push the issue again. I think my situation is different. I signed up at Microcenter and got a $200 credit off of a flat screen to sign up. I have a termination fee prior to my first year which ends this September.

I started with customer service and they couldn't do it. They transferred me to sales and they couldn't do it. They transferred me to another customer service, no go. They transferred me to cancellation dept (by my request).

I told the guy. Look, I know you can do this deal. He explained that my particular account, it wasn't availble. The best he could do was to go from 25 to 15 for unlimited for 12 months. I took it since it was better. He said that because I had signed up in a retail store that affected my options.

I think this is probably b/c they made less (or lost more money than they lose on a direct, as the case may be.

My impression is that if you signed up online, or direct by phone, you have a better chance.

The key is to pretend to want to cancel. That is where you will get the best offer I think.

I have a feeling that this company is going to go the way of Sunrocket, so it may be time to consider TMobile for your cell.

I am on 14.95/month 500 min plan. I called Vonage to find out about this promo and customer rep told me that there is no such promo like that

Unless you tell them that you want to disconnect, I don't think you will get this plan. If they ask for the reason, tell them that T-Mobile is offering $10 package for the cell phone customer and that will get you this plan.

Hi,

$9.95/month is good. Is there any other charges? My current AT & T plan also charges me $4.52 of Federal Access Charge, besides, there are a lot of surcharges and fees, of course taxes too.

Thanks OP, worked like a charm for me. I called and complained about the call quality (wasn't really that bad) and said I would not keep it at $25/month. CSR gave me the promo rate without any problems.

Thank you for your post...it is circulating all over the net at all the bargin forums.

I called the phone number in your post and as a new customer they would not honor the deal and Vonage offered me the 3 months + 1 free promotion they are running.
I then called the phone number from their web site and again could not get the deal...
I then called the sales office number 1-800-968-8720 they seam to have more authority and probably more incentive!

They gave me the 6 months at $9.95 then $24.95 but could not add a free month to that, however instead they gave me the adapter (suposedly normally $80) for free, they charged $9.95 to ship it.

I was paying $876 a year $73 for ATT landline service unlimited plus all the fancy call options..
the cost will now be $209.40 for the year...if the VOIP quality is now equal to landline it would be foolish not to switch and save $666.60 a year!!!

Thanks

What is the advantage of Vonage over Magicjack.com which is only $40/yr?

This is great, I called in, told the manager I wanted to cancel because of the services T-Mobile is giving. The lady gave the $9.95 for the next 6 months. She also told me to call back at the end of the next 6 months for another round of $9.95 after that. This is great, I'm happy so save money

You should try, tell them you want to cancel the services.

no go for me. they even asked me to pay $14.99 for the shipping of the adapter

The tips is to be consistent that you want to cancel the services. At first the manager said yes, I will go ahead and cancel it for you, scared me a little bit because I don't want to have it canceled today. But at the very end of the conversation, she offered me the $9.95 discount.
