    WATCH OUT for this! if you EVER had an AMEX card before you wont get the bonus miles. I had a card 8 years ago, and after opening a new one, they told me THREE MONTHS later "sorry"!

    Delta notified FF members yesterday of a $25 fuel charge on domestic award tickets and $50 fuel charge on international award tickets.

    100% correct....if you ever had any personal Delta/AMEX relationship...they will never credit bonus miles ever again...and they won't tell you....you just won't get them. I am not sure how this plays out if you get a business card, under a business name...with you as the authorized user.

    Here is the actual policy;

    Delta Continues to Adjust to Unprecedented Fuel Costs with Addition of Fuel Surcharge on SkyMiles Award Ticket Travel
    ATLANTA, June 27, 2008 – In response to continued, unprecedented fuel costs, Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) will add a fuel surcharge to SkyMiles Award Tickets originating from the U.S. and Canada.

    Effective Aug. 15, 2008, the SkyMiles® program will add:
    A $25 surcharge for Award Travel between the 50 states and Canada

    A $50 surcharge for Award Travel between the 50 states/Canada and all international destinations, including the Caribbean, Latin America, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Pacific.

    This fuel surcharge will not impact existing ticketed award itineraries or award tickets issued prior to Aug. 15, 2008, regardless of the date of travel.
    “The price of fuel has nearly doubled in the last year, causing considerable financial stress to Delta’s business. As a result, Delta is implementing initiatives across all areas of the business to mitigate the extraordinary run up in fuel expense,” said Jeff Robertson, managing director of Delta’s SkyMiles Program. “This was a difficult but essential decision in the face of record-high fuel costs. We hope this is temporary, and should fuel prices subside from current levels, we will reevaluate this surcharge.”
    Delta remains committed to making SkyMiles the best frequent flyer program in the industry and providing members with the most benefits and rewards. Delta will continue to expand the destinations and opportunities for Award Travel and strengthen the program as the airline prepares for its proposed merger with Northwest Airlines®. Additionally, Delta will launch a new multi-tiered award program and other key initiatives throughout the next 60 days.

    Terms and Conditions
    A fuel surcharge applies for any Award Tickets originating from the U.S. and Canada issued or exchanged on or after August 15, 2008. This surcharge is $25 for round trip Award Tickets for U.S. and Canada travel; $50 round trip for all other destinations including Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Caribbean, Trans-Atlantic, Trans-Pacific and Latin America. Additional taxes and fees apply. All taxes and fees for Award Travel are the responsibility of the passenger and must be paid at the time the ticket is issued. Award Travel seats are limited and may not be available on all flights or in all markets. Partner airline benefits subject to change and subject to the terms and conditions of each partner. All SkyMiles program rules apply. To review the rules, please visit Membership Guide & Program Rules.

    I received the very same email. This new surcharge starts in August. This is only one of the many reasons why I would avoid this ... like the plague. I have a lot of FF miles with Delta and Northwest but find them nearly impossible to use. This fuel surcharge makes their mileage program just that much less attractive. If you are looking for a rewards card try one with a CASH reward not a hard-to-use mileage one (that now adds extra charges to use them).

    No thank you ...

    ditto what others have said... Delta charging fuel surcharge for redeeming miles for what was supposed to be a "free" award ticket. What charges will they add next when you redeem miles for a "free" ticket..

    my favorite is the 75 dollar fee if the ticket is booked within 14 days of travel
    in addition to the 15 if you don't book it online (on the phone)

    Delta is starting to blow! I had $85 of redemption fees for a flight late in July...this is ridiculous!
