I just got back from Best Buy in Battle Creek, MI and scored some deals on NiMH batteries. I'm not sure if it was a price mistake, promotion, or sale price for next week that wasn't in their system yet but was on the rack. They had these low self discharge (some say these are Eneloops in different packaging) AA (and AAA if I remember) 4 packs for 8.99.

I also scored 8 pack AA's of the non-LSD 2650mAH's for 12.50, also a pretty hot deal in my opinion. Anyway, I'm curious to see how reproduceable this deal is - if its a legit nationwide sale or just a mistake at that store. The 8.99 sale tag clearly said precharged though, so it wasn't like they were marking down the non-LSD's to get rid of them or something.

Why does non-LSD make this hot? Are the LSD ones the same price or YMMV too?
I wonder if they'll go for a good price on the street corner

In my experience the Duracell 2650 mAH AAs suck. they are a hair too big to fit in some things, and they don't seem to hold their charge for more than a couple days.
As for the LSD AAs, seems like you can get the Kodak version at Wal-Mart for about the same price. I can't find that item online, but for $3 more you can get 4 Kodak precharged AAs and a charger:

(I tried linking it, but it seems Wal-Mart didn't like that and did a redirect.)
I've had good luck with both Kodak and Eneloop precharged AAs in my digital SLR.

yeah, my recommendation would be to avoid regular NiMH and get the low self discharge version. they really are signifiantly better IMHO

While I agree that the LSD's are the real deal here, there are still uses for the other type in very specific applications. I just used a bunch of them yesterday in flashes for a wedding - in a case like that where you charge them the day before and are going to empty them in 24 hrs, losing 1% because they sat around for a day isn't a big deal - there I just needed volume of power.

That said, for almost every other application I can think of, the 17.98 for two packs of 4 LSDs is a much better deal than the 12.99 for the 8 pack of non's. But, I still stand by the deal on the LSD's because this is the cheapest I was able to find them in the last couple of weeks, even Eneloops on Amazon were 9.99 and jumped up to $12-13 per four pack.

The Kodak were $10.99 with a charger in my Staples this morning.
