Looks pretty useless for a HTPC. No HDMI output, no DVI output, only takes 2 ram sticks.

Just a FYI, you can add DVI using one of those ADD2 boards designed for Intel chipset mobos.
I have other nVidia IGP mobos and happened to have an ADD2 board laying around and gave it a shot. I was a little surprised that it works.

There are ADD2 type boards with HDMI as well. Needing to purchase one would probably negate any cost savings over buying a board with DVI/HDMI in the first place though.

Well if you're not getting a micro ATX motherboard for an HTPC, then you're probably getting it for some old folks computer where they'll just be using the internet. If you want something for yourself, you would probably get something that was a bit more expandable.

If you are getting it for an HTPC, then this looks pretty useless, unless of course you get an extra video card, which also negates the savings for this motherboard.

That's interesting. I have one of those ADD2 boards from a Dell. Will have to give it a try on my various nVidia chipset mobos.

How much RAM do you want for your HTPC? Put a nice graphics card that supports HDMI or HD quality video and you will be happy.

Well, I think using mATX boards are ok for doing lower-cost builds nowadays. Sure, they don't have SLI, and they've only got two PCI slots, as opposed to the 6 slots that some pre-PCI-e boards had. But most people don't use SLI, and with so many things on-board already (8 USB2's, sound, network, SATA RAID, etc), two PCI slots should be enough expandability for a good number of people.

It looks like an interesting low-cost board. True, the ram is single channel, there's only two DIMM slots, and the board doesn't take 1333 bus chips, but it has some nice features like overclockability, SATA RAID, and even SPDIF sound. Of course, the PCI-e x16 slot is very important if you want to upgrade the card for gaming. I got one to do a cheap build. I'll probably get a Pentium Dual core e2160 or e2180, or Core 2 Duo e7200.

Guess there's really not many that knows much about htpc here. Just pair this board with one of those cheap ati 2400/2600/3450 or 3650 and you got one great htpc more than capable of full 1080p. I have use this in couple of htpc build pair with ati 3450 and E2160 (oc 3.0ghz). Works great attached to lcd/plasma.

How about getting it for the price?
How about that the majority of users won't fill up the expansion slots even on this motherboard?

I find it funny in threads like this that if it doesn't meet a power user's needs, it gets generalized to being good enough only for grandma to use the Internet.

Please show me how you overclocked E2160 to 3.0GHZ on this board, then I am sold. Otherwise people can just get the cheap ECS board normally selling for this price without rebate.

I'm building my first HTPC. I was thinking of getting this board: http://www.Newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131237 adding a Q6600 and 8GB of ram.

I was really hoping I can run Xen on it and it could be my Xen Server/HTPC server (DVR/Blueray/etc), but it looks like you need windows to play Blueray.

Can anyone point me to some HTPC info? Would it be possible to do a set up like what I'm looking for?

bump the fsb from 800 to 1333 and increase the voltage a bit. Tonight I'll try and update with the exact config I used. It's a rock solid board BTW. The E2160 is basically the E4300 with less cache and oc as well.

Thanks for the simple but valuable comment. After all I might not be regretting of buying this board
