I've been watching the price steadily drop here from this thread. This price kills anything else out there. Perfect for my HTPC. I'm in for one and green to you, rollnpc.

Thanks OP for posting a very nice deal.

Does anyone know if stootsi.com reliable?

Good question. When I saw they didn't accept my AMEX, I went out to Reseller Ratings to check them out. 6 mo rating of 9.28. Not bad.

Didn't think about it. Had to pull the trigger before the FW effect. Fortunately, I have good consumer protection through my other credit cards. The AMEX customer service is untouchable, though, so I generally use them first.

Back to the topic at hand. Hopefully, this reminder will be helpful for the masses that go after the drive.

Edit: unintended effect of abbr.

The big issue here is what software disk are they including. If it aint one of the software that run the bluray/hd dvd then prepare to shell out more $$$$. Not a bad deal but they are not very descriptive on the included disk

For a minute I thought this was a Blu-Ray burner, which would have made it an insane deal, but still a very good find.

Was about to post the very same thing. I'm looking for a blu-ray burner. Gotta pay more attention to the acronym soup to make sure I end up with what I want...

This thread from avforums may be somewhat helpful. Relevant updates are apparently free, although not explicitly stated as such.

OK, software plays DVD but is limited, you have to upgrade to full version. read the reviews on Newegg

No need to worry about that, the SD effect has been in play for hours. This deal hit there long ago.

Personally I think it's big issue. I gave up my setup on this drive due to 1) costs another 80 bucks for software 2) way too complicated to make hi-def works reasonably well 3) PDVD latest version no longer supports hd-dvd. I had this drive on my htpc and I sold it.

hot deal if you can find the software somewhere cheap(or free for the guys with parrots on their shoulders)
