Copied from agg28 over at SD--thanks

"I received this in my email. It is for a survey on a new type of medication. Here is the info as copy and pasted from the email:

I'd like to invite you to participate in an important online research survey
to evaluate a new medication. Your responses as a consumer will help shape
future treatment attitudes regarding the disease for which this drug is
indicated. The survey will take you no longer than 25-30 minutes to
complete. Within 10-15 business days of the close of the survey, we will
mail you a $50 check.
The goal of the survey is to understand your current attitudes and beliefs
regarding different medical treatment options. We will seek some general
demographic information you, present you with a series of possible treatment
options for the investigational medication, and ask your opinion about
different treatment practices.
This survey is strictly for marketing research purposes. Your individual
answers will be kept completely confidential and the information you provide
will not be shared with others. There will be no sales follow-up.

To take the survey:
1. Open your web browser and type
http://www.sententia-research.com...tgpat.html
<http://www.sententia-research.com/survey/otgpat.html> into the address
bar.
2. If you have participated in our surveys in the past:
a. When prompted, enter your unique login ID, which is your e-mail
address.
b. When prompted, enter your unique passcode, which is your last name.
3. If you have never participated in any of our surveys before, please
sign up as a new user.
4. Complete the survey. Within 10-15 business days of the close of the
survey, we'll mail your $50 check.
a. If you know anyone else who would be interested in taking this
survey, please forward this email to them. "

Being the IT person I am, I would say this is most likely spam. I'd like to know if you in fact receive anything from them once your survey is filled out.

Don't agree with the "IT Person". Doubtful this is spam. These types of surveys are always around, and usually seem legit. DO agree with the above poster though...the interface is AWFUL. It took forever to fill this sucker out. Roboform was no help-stupid interface window. I almost gave up, but hey, $50 is $50!

Once I "signed up", it told me I wasn't eligible based on my gender and year of birth.

Same here , it said they are looking for a MIX of people so I was ineligible. Under Internet Explorer it took forever to load so I used Firefox and it loaded instantly.

You should use your actual age and gender so that the survey results aren't skewed..

Seriously...

OK, I went to their web site http://Sententia-Research.com and let's say they are a real research company, not just looking to get your personal information, why wouldn't they have any contact information on their web site? Not a phone number, address, nada. Doesn't look lagit to me.

sharing a good survey with people here is not a bad thing. but asking for qualifying info (we as consumers will be the end losers when we provide bad info for research) is very very bad.

I completed the entire survey, but now have rec'd an email saying that there was a glitch in their system and sorry, but no reward for you.

I'm actually surprised with all the problems people are having. I used MSN browser. I had zero problems taking the survey, and I met the age and medical condition that this was intended for. If you aren't/weren't past at least age 40 and female, there is no way you could qualify do this survey; and unless you have the condition which the survey specifies, you can't fudge it either. Not only did I complete it, and was told I'd receive the promised incentive, I was asked if I would be willing to participate on future surveys on the subject, or related ones. If you managed to get past the gender and age requirements, and didn't have the condition and are currently on medication and being treated for it, there is no way you can 'fudge' it. The request for the license number is only for panelists who are licensed practitioners in the medical field, I registered as a 'consumer' and was not asked for my number. The company does research for a very selected population, most are not going to qualify. I have qualified for stuff that the majority of FW and SD posters would never qualify. Medical surveys are very client-specific.

To the IT person, there are a number of survey companies who have a sign-up page as a portal, why must they have contact information there? I do surveys for a disability-related one, Guess what, their website is just like this one. They don't put out that info on the web for a reason, because there are people who will "gosh!" lie on anything just for the money. They know other ways to get their targetted audience. The disabilty one was posted on a board related to disabilities. The contact info comes in the emails sent to you. Only survey respondents need the info, so why put it on the web? Being an IT person, I would think you, of all people, would know the need for them to keep certain info private from the general masses. Unless you think medical professionals sign-up on pages like that one willy-nilly. The company does research of and for, medical professionals. They contact those individuals directly. Or the professional responds to an advert in a medical periodical or mailing. My doctor told me about one that she was referring patients to. Sometimes the professionals need the imput of consumers who have a specific condition and/or use a specific med. They prefer going through the word-of-mouth channels, than putting up a website of surveys. I get told about a certain survey, and the sign-up URL. And the page is usually a single page with no other information, including no contact info.

While I appreciate that many share these types of surveys by posting in public forums, I wonder if it would be better that they didn't, since the clentele that passes the criteria is so limited. I won't even post who I do disabilty-related surveys for, nor will I post the actual surveys. The people who most likely qualify will find them where I did, on forums where the target population posts.
