Note: I have not tested the deal as I already own the 5100 model, but if you plan to buy an inexpensive GPS, the 2100 for $130 with free lifetime traffic seem ok.

nice lil unit got this at Staples for 95 bux gunna get this one for the traffic feature in for 1 thx op
Hi, I'm a new member here, please forgive my ignorance ![]()
how to add this free lifetime traffic to the GPS (say 2100)?
or, is it a future gold box deal?
Add the 2100 and the traffic activation card to your shopping cart and it will deduct the cost of the traffic at the checkout screen. Make sure that the 2100 that you add to the cart is being sold by Amazon ($130), not a partner.
I thought all Navigon's come with free traffic, they are only brand to include lifetime free traffic alerts. Not sure how good their units or updates are though.

As I recall, Staples had them on a recent holiday for $125 or so, traffic was included on some, I asked for the ones with and I got it, they had same UPC number for with or without.
The ones with had a label indicating included.
With coupons they were $96 or so.
I get free traffic 5 days a week, no purchase necessary! ![]()
I've been using a 2100 since last November. The 5100/7100 come with free traffic, the 2100 does not, but once you purchase it (or get it with this deal) it's free for life (of the unit).
The 2100 is a good value for this price, not only lifetime traffic but text-to-speech, and reality view (shows a picture of many of the more complicated exits with arrows to show you which lane to be in).
The layout of the unit, especially when inputting address info is what causes some issues. The keys only take up 1/2 the screen so on a 3.5" unit they are smaller and harder to press accurately. The initial revision of the firmware was a bit slow so you'd press the keys ahead of the system and that would cause errors.
Navigon has released two updates, the most recent v1.2 also included map updates (free with registration). The firmware update made the unit much more responsive.
Navigon is a European company and the look and feel of the map view has a European touch - less colors, more "formal". Personally I like it - some people do, some don't.
The quality of the unit is top notch, and for $130 it's a very good unit, I would not hesitate to purchase it. Note however that Best Buy did have the 5100 (including traffic) on sale a week ago for $150.

just fyi
if u guys are used to a quick, responsive GPS unit, the Navigon series as a whole, isn't that responsive and in "dire moments" when you're driving at fast speeds, the re-routing isnt very quick.
great value for the price, but just realize what you're paying for.
I don't know about the 2100max, but i hear they upgraded the processor for that.
Except their maps, even with the free 1.2 update are horribly outdated. They use the same map source (Navteq) as does my GM Nav in my truck and the Navigon has a mapping error that was fixed on my Chevy with an update over a year ago. (My exit is missing off a major highway). Maybe their product is inexpensive because they use outdated maps from Navteq. Other then the outdated map data it's a great value for the price.

I think the deal is dead now.. I add the 2100 with traffic, the total is $180.. any idea???
It still works. It takes the traffic away at the final checkout screen. Make sure that both items in cart are from Amazon directly...

Maybe still working. Navigon 2100 goes in and out of stock from Amaz*n. If you catch it in stock, it's $128.50, including free lifetime traffic. I got one today. Awesome deal. Thanks, OP!
If you can't catch the 2100 in stock, you can get the 2120 instead with free lifetime traffic for about $150. I think it's physically identical but includes Canada maps too. Good luck!
Just an FYI for everyone...Amazon will probably consider this a "special pricing" promo (or something like that) therefore negating any efforts to get a refund if the price drops. I got this unit with the 3 year map update last month and when the price dropped more than $7 I was denied a refund. Still can't complain, just wanted to give a heads up.
Also...the routing issues are of some concern but aside from the map updates there are forums that can help tweak the settings to improve the strange routings.
Staples had this for $100 last thanksgiving. I got one and after being frustrated with the software crashes and inefficient route recalculation I returned it. The unit also came with a free lifetime traffic navigation (yes the 2100). But I guess the traffic software was the main cause of crashes - running out of memory - hope they fixed it by now. Also the route recalculation took a long time - i would rather spend more money and get a better GPS.

Thanks for your perspective. First-hand info is always welcome. ![]()
By the way, if you are going to criticize a product or a deal (sometimes called "thread-crapping"), it is considered polite to provide links to a better deal. That way, you are making a positive contribution, not just a negative comment.
Again, your comments are welcome. Please provide a link to a better GPS with TTS and traffic included.
FYI, Navigon now has a new software release (1.2) that responds faster and is less likely to crash. I have had my 2100 for a month (just bought a second one today) and it has never crashed.
Please try this GPS before you buy. I have a Garmin C320 without TTS that I like (other than being bulky and a little slow to initially lock on-- but those are fixed with the new Garmins). Navigon's interface was horrible in my opinion and it routed very, very slowly, and rerouted even more slower. The screen was very hard to see under glare too. A lot of these observations are based on personal preference, so it may not bother you, but I returned a Navigon 2100 to Staples today so I can buy a Garmin GPS instead.

Which one?
I also tried but total is 199+shipping as traffic is from 6Ave, any clue.
