For those with HE washers: Try this.
8 cents per load is wildly cheap for HE washes.

Can you confirm that it's usable in regular washers as well? It says "High Efficiency™ symbol, so it's ideal for all makes and models of washers." so I would think so.
This is from consumer reports. The first number is cents per load. The second is the rating.

I never have used HE detergent in my Kenmore LE washer and have had it for over 5 years, is there a reason to use HE detergent? I just use a little less of regualar detergent.
For many, many years I used Sears landry detergent. It cleaned my clothes okay, I thought.
Well, when a Consumer Reports article came out a couple of years ago, ranking the different laundry detergents, I decided to try Tide because of its #1 ranking. This was about 2 year ago. I was absolutley flabergasted of how clean my clothes came out after using Tide. It was a such an remarkable different to me. I even commented to my mother how I couldn't believe the difference.
With the results I have seen since, I have decided to never go back to Sears and to stick with Tide from now on. It is well worth the extra money to buy Tide, imho.
I use the Sears HE stuff, and the 275 load estimate on the container is actually very low. It seems they mark the included measuring cup at the halfway point, but expect you to use a full cup. So you are *almost* getting double the amount of loads.
Ive used this stuff since we got our Kenmore Elite, and I love it. Clothes come out clean without overpowering scents (the one with FS is nice because I dont need to use ANY liquid in the washer [if you read around you'll know why this is a good thing] and I dont need to use dryer sheets in the dryer [that contain wax]) The only other detergent I would rather use is Charlies Soap, but I couldnt justify the price (especially after buying a tub of the Sears stuff which will last YEARS at this point)
Not sure about using it in a non-HE washer.....maybe just double the amount you use? You should experiment with how much of any detergent you need anyway, so after some trial and error you might be able to figure out what works for you.
As far as Tide.......we used Tide for years before getting our HE washer. The clothes are now no dirtier than they were after being washed with Tide........the good thing is I dont smell like a perfume factory when wearing them ![]()

In my opinion, the "Tide's In, Dirt's Out" advertising campaign / slogan is one of the greatest of all time. (The ebb and flow of the tides; the tide comes in and then the dirt flows out. Too cerebral?)

I've been using it for years in my top load washer. I use about 3/4 of a scoop unless it's super dirty rags, rugs or heavily soiled "work" clothes.
I do have to say I usually buy the big buckets at 12.49 so the price really can't be beat. They only run that sale price 2 or 3 times a year but I buy 2 buckets at a time and they last me forever.
I have never noticed a cleaning difference between this and other detergents. Occasionally I use a liquid because I'm too lazy to open the bucket and my clothes seem the same level of clean to me.
FYI: you can use regular detergents in a front load HE washer, you just have to use about 1/4 the amount or so said our Whirlpool rep. The main difference between the two are the suds. HE detergents are low sudsing because too many suds will trip an error on a HE washer.
Hmmm...I'm only 1/2 box into the two I bought last time. Do I really need more? SURE!
P.S. Get a front loading washer. I'm surprised how well it cleans compared to a "normal" washer. Tide, Sears, or any detergent you want to use. Well worth the money.
Still don't understand this craze about front-loading washing machine. It has been around Europe and Asia for 4 decades if not more. People use it there because water is scarce and you can do a load with very little detergent and water. It is really not a new design at all.
That said, I have been using Sears detergent when on sale, or whatever on sale at Kroger/Walgreens/Rite Aid. I really can't tell the difference. May be I am not very discerning. ![]()

Front loaders were fairly common in the 50s-60s.
My mother had a combo washer/dryer front loader.
Most of the Laundromats were front loading washing machines.
Sometime early 60s my father moved the combo upstairs to the kitchen.
Guess what happened shortly afterwards?
The seal went on the door and water everywhere.
Next purchase was a conventional top leader...
Will the new washer seals leak a little after a decade or will they fail completely and dump a load of water on a floor? Only time will tell and maybe we will end up going back to top loaders again?
i've had my front loader close to 10 yrs and no problems. also, water level on front loaders nowadays is below the door so if the door seal fails, you won't get a lot of water on the floor.
