Those of you who never went in on the Intel Q6600 deals with Fry's earlier in the year, now you can jump to a Yorkfield 45nm Quad-Core CPU for only $249.99.

Yes, I know all you ECS haters out there. Here's your choice:

1. Buy the combo.
2. Dump the ECS motherboard on eBay for $30 or so bucks.
3. Buy yourself a decent motherboard for your nice shiny new retail Intel Q9450.
4. OC it to 3.6 GHz (450*8) on air.

Option 2:

1. Keep the combo. You won't be able to OC it on the ECS GF7050VT-M because the max FSB you can set in the BIOS is 333 (FSB-1333 BSEL).

CPU itself is $329.99 at Newegg. [Link]

Cheers,
Eemrek

The E0 stepping is coming in the July - Aug time frame, and it will become the jewel of the crown like G0 stepping did in 65nm process. I am predicting all the current 9300/9450 will face major price cut soon.

If you don't want to spend this much I did this trick on my Q6600 HP desktop and is rock solid at 3.0 with stock heatsink.

Does anybody know if this is the retail box version or the OEM version?

I am also trying to decide whether I want to jump in on this now or wait to see what the potential price cuts will offer. Anybody have any words of advice?

Usually Fry's knows you bought a bundle and will not allow you to return part of it. I think they use a sku for the bundle that is different from the individual products.

Sure good luck with that one. At $4.10> per gallon of gas that is an expensive waste of time. Sold as a bundle and you will be forced to return as bundle.
Get READY to get BUNDLED!

That's what they told me when I asked if I could return the proc (Celeron) from a bundle - must return both. I did bring both pieces to the return counter, so maybe they would have accepted just the proc if I left the MB in the car.

I got in on this deal as well in So Cal. I went to the Frys located at the City of Industry.

Also, I wanted to ask, what are some good recommendations for a motherboard to go with this CPU? I'm thinking of selling this motherboard on eBay and getting another one.

If you're planning to OC, keep the Xigmatek. If not, the retail fan is probably enough.
