This is my first deal post. I just scored a Maxtor OneTouch 4 500gb external Hard drive at the Savannah TN, 38372 WalMart, for $40 + tax.

I am attaching a photo of the Hard drive and a scan of the receipt.

I know there have been a lot of hot deals on external hard drives lately but this seems, in my opinion pretty good.

This is BRICK and MORTAR and definitely YMMV

Links for images are incomplete (ellipsis in address).

Nice deal, but sounds like extreme YMMV.

By the way, how did you find it? Clearance rack? Sale tag? Circular? Just rang up for that price?

Please explain (ellipsis in address) and how to correct. Thanks

This was in a clearance section at my local WalMart. I have been watching this section for the last two weeks and the various items have been pitifully marked down (not worth mentioning). Today I went in on my way to a 4th of July party and low and behold a new item had showed up and it was this hard drive. It was the last one and the shelf tag read $40 originally $50 something. I assume the originally part was an earlier markdown from whatever the original retail price was.

The ellipsis (three periods, "...") in the addresses are due to truncation, and have been used to substitute a portion of the address.

In other words, the address for the images was deemed too long by your source, so they shrunk the hyperlink text by including an ellipsis. Their link was still valid, as it contained the whole address and not the truncated version displayed; however, you have copied the truncated text, which is invalid.

Well I got the links to work but you have to copy and paste them. If anyone can tell me how to embed them in the post it would be much appreciated.

Thanks OP!

the pic of the box will really help. I have several Walmarts nearby and will be watching for these.

more like random flip of the coin than YMMV

WalMart allows management to mark clearance based on X dollars a quarter to stock on hand. Yes, they set the clearance price nationally but the manager has the control to set which items he wants based on what he has in stock. So you need a store with alot of stock and a store where the manager wants to use his clearance quota on that stock

The ellipsis happen because you cut and pasted text from your OP on SD. Looks fixed now.

Unlike Target, the clearances at Wallmart are virtually limited to individual store. And they don't PM other Walmarts. So, the "definitely YMMV" applies to WalMart a lot more than it would take to make this a deal. I have yet to see someone post "yeah, my WalMart had the same deal" on any WalMart clearance. As can be seen in SD thread - there are several failure reports there.

In other words, save your time and save whatever money you were going to spend on gas to go to the store.

All of the comments about WalMart clearance are true - definitely huge YMMV

But.... There is some sort of consistency between stores - I have had numerous occasions in the past where I got multiples of items at the same price by visiting multiple stores. Some of the items that I have been able to get multiples of from FW posts in the past included cribs, strollers, bicycles, tool sets, "bounce houses", and electronics.

Given today's gas prices and the extremely low odds of getting specific WalMart clearance deals I wouldn't make a special trip. But if you are passing within a few miles of a WalMart anyway... stop in. Check for the items listed. You might be surprised. They are likely being pushed out in all stores for being slow movers, or replaced by new models, brands, etc. They probably will be clearanced out at some point.

Then take advantage of the seemingly random nature of WalMart clearance and look for anything unique at your store.
And for my sake - if you find a great deal - post it!

$0.08/GB = WOW!

Hence, I gave OP green. Before I go out and buy one, I've just 2 questions:
1) Which NY locations have this in stock for $40?
2) How good is the model or brand? I heard a few bad reviews which make me a little apprehensive. But the price is definitely stellar!

Thanks!

I found the Maxtor Basics Personal Storage 3200, 320gb for $90 before tax at one of my Walmarts. The checkout peeps were questioning how it was almost half price too.
