Yesterday I saw these TIVOs for $35.00 (in Pittsburgh area).

They've had 2 at the store near me for months now, and they have kept the price at $70. I will run over on Monday to see if they dropped the price.

any rebates?

vickh said: any rebates?

I have read of people claiming to have received a rebate for Big Lot purchase.

There is a rebate being offered right now, I'm pretty sure, for purchases from authorized dealers. Also pretty sure Big Lots is not considered an authorized dealer.

Amazon.com authorized?

Yes, with qualifications. They will usually post the rebate links on/with the product page.

They have had offers where they specifically stated were not qualified for rebate.

When Big Lots gets something like this (appliances/electronics), you usually see the company go belly up shortly thereafter.

Big Lots probably purchased them from some electronics store that went out of business. I saw one of these a few months back @ the local Big Lots for $68 or so. Thought about picking it up to replace the single-tuner I have, but I don't really need a DT (as I download every TV show using BT and watch it using my modded Xbox running XBMC.) I only use my $6.95/month TiVo for stuff like Family Guy re-runs and whatnot.

I wouldn't mind picking up the now-discontinued Series3 if Big Lots got them in and had them at a great price (meaning under a hundred bucks OTD), but TiVo isn't going out of business anytime soon.

Can someone please tell me what BT is? This looks like it might work for me.

This is a good deal if you need to replace an existing TiVo (like someone mentioned replacing a ST they have). If you're going to activate the TiVo as a new account or even an additional line, the better deal is still at Tiger Direct (if you're willing to deal with a rebate). They have the unit for $79.99 plus a 3 month service gift card. Plus you can get the $150 rebate from TiVo.
Here's the deal: Tivo DT at Tiger Direct. And here's a copy of the rebate: Tivo Rebate. I did this deal a couple of months ago and confirmed that Tiger Direct is an authorized dealer. I received my rebate check about a week ago. Cost me about $35 (AR) for the TiVo and a year of service.

BT = Bluetooth

In this instance,

BT = Bit Torrent. This is a peer to peer file sharing network. Many people share music and movies..

I am one of those claiming.... I bought one the last time they had them, which coincided with the 20% off one item.... If I recall, it ended up being $60-ish, then I got the $150 rebate. I had to fight fo rthe rebate (originally disallowed), but one phone call took care of it.

I checked Tiger Direct web site, it says three months of service free which is 59.99. So does it cost $ 20 a month to use TiVo? Can some one explain? dodealer said: This is a good deal if you need to replace an existing TiVo (like someone mentioned replacing a ST they have). TiVo is $12.95 / month. 3 x $12.95 = $38.85 discount.

You need to sign up for 1 year to be eligble for the $150 rebate.

1 year prepaid = $129 - $38.85 discount = $90.15
1 year prepaid with MSD * = $99 - $38.85 discount = $60.15

* MSD (Multi Service Discount) applies to the 2nd to 6th TiVo in the same account.

It's been answered, but look here if you need more clarification. The "3 month gift card" is effectively a $38.95 coupon that you apply when you buy a 1-year subscription @ $129.

Final price for the TD deal is ~$36 for a dual tuner TiVo with 1 year service, about $3/month. This $35 TiVo from BL would be hotter than that, *if* you can use the $150 rebate ($35 + tax + $129 - $150 = $14 + tax). Great deal, especially if you only have basic cable and refuse to spend the $$$$ to upgrade to digital cable just for the privilege of using the cable co's DVR.

Big Lots deal confirmed in Orlando. Thanks OP.

any idea when thier next 20% off deals coming up??

Confirmed in West Allis, WI. They only had one left and it was obviously a floor model/demo unit. 30 days to return it. Will plug it in and check it out. Will look into the rebate once I confirm functionality.

I wish they were still running TiVo Rewards and TailorMade from AMEX was still up and running to get more bang for your buck. Those were the days!

Will the series2 be able to record when everything goes digital in February? OR is buying one now just a waste of money, no matter the deal?

cable is still analog even after mar 2009. only the OTA people will have to buy a digital converter.
TiVo 2 does not have digital tuner so even if you buy today it will not record digital channel.

None at the three stores I checked in NW Atlanta area.

These will continue to work with cable boxes as they always have. They were never designed to work as/with ota tuners. Of course, if your cable company goes all digital, you will lose the dual tuner functionality as only one box at a time can be connected/controlled.

Since this model was never designed for ota tuning, TiVo will not offer support for the ota converter boxes with this unit, as they will with the other Series 2 units, which do have ota tuners. There are reports that the unit in op(S2DT) can be hacked to work with one/some of the ota boxes by tricking it to believe it is tuning a cable channel lineup.

I was able to get the $150 rebate from TiVo back in Sept'07. It orignially was denided. I had to call up and play dumb on why it was rejected. CR said we have all the paperwork, I'll overwrite it.

I would assume YMMV now as they probably caught on. I bought it the first day it hit the stores and sent in the rebate the next day

None for me in Rock Hill, SC. I would have liked the cheap upgrade from the single-tuner one.

no luck, scottsdale az ( shea& 90th) or tempe Az ( baseline& Mcclintock).

rebate was initially denied. 1 quick phone call without having to defend anything cleared it up.

Dude. Buy the one from TigerDirect for $80 plus shipping, subscribe it for $99 for a year with multiservice discount less the $39 TiVo gift subscription enclosed means $60 for the subscription, get a rebate of $150 from TiVo. If it was not for shipping that would mean make money after rebate for an additional unit to what you already have, with a year's service... you just have to wait a while for your rebate...

I am doing this and I already have 4 Tivos... can't turn down the basically-free service that comes this way... can't even use that many tivos but the free service keeps me coming back for more. *L*

$35 from biglots + $99 - $150 = make money too, but obviously if you can't find one then that doesn't help.

I did $35 (TiVo) + $75 ($100 subscription card off eBay) + $300 (lifetime, multiservice) - $150 (rebate) -$100 (subscription card) = $160

About 1-2 years worth of service cost = lifetime service. Sweet deal IMHO.
