Goes great with Tomato firmware here: http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato

Thanks, LDS, excellent deal on a great router (with Tomato or DD-WRT). In for two!

Bought mine for @ $30 at Office Depot BM few months back.
Price is ok.
I can't knock the router, nothing to compare it to.
However, I have had many problems with connectivity and customer service will work with you through the kinks.

Hint: If you use your router with a game console like I do, linksys csr may attemp to play the blame game with the game maker or console maker; just do a three-way call and let them duke it out!!

That's the whole reason to go to a third-party firmware like Tomato or DD-WRT. You avoid the horrible Linksys "tech support" and their buggy firmware.

I'm wondering if I should get this router w/the DD-WRT or a wireless N router. I'm thinking this router would be the better choice.

This router is ALWAYS on sale because it is garbage.

It's best to get the router from your ISP or one that they recommend so that Tech Support there is familar with it.

Wish there were more 1000 LAN connection routers. Cheapest are still about $100 and mixed reviews.

Not a big deal, really. Just get a gigabit switch, the Trendnet 5 and 8 port models are posted here frequently, and plug it into one of the ports on the router. Put all of your Gig-E clients on the switch and they'll transfer faster amongst themselves. It's not like you're going to get gigabit speeds with a wireless peer anyway, so it's a good setup.

Get a Monowall out of an old PC and you can get 1000+ connections.

Looks like it's $45 now AMIR. $55 with shipping. Anyone know anywhere to get it cheaper? Also I have to pay tax with Newegg.

quick question - i see a v1 and a v1.1 - is there a difference? if i had a choice, is one better than the other?

thanks!

It appears, version 1.1 is better

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series said:]As of May 8, 2008, this version was shipping with firmware revision 4.30.11. This pre-loaded firmware allows the user to upload a 4MB firmware image, whereas the pre-loaded firmware on version 1.0 limited the image to 3MB. Firmware version 4.30.12 is now available for both hardware versions. Fully supported by Tomato, Sveasoft, OpenWrt, and DD-WRT.

Amazon had it for $40.99 (no Tax/Free shipping/No rebate) a few weeks ago. I bought it from Amazon because I'm in California and Newegg charges tax. The current Amazon price is $44.99.

The current Amazon price is $52.51 (AR), not $44.99. You are referring to their price on the WRT54G not the WRT54GL

One's garbage is some one else's treasure.

Ever heard of the Tomato or DD-WRT firmware?

I got this router. Using Tomato, running 12 hours a day, no problem.

Funny how some people are jealous of this router. Get a life already.

i sometimes lose my net connection with my router (WRT54GS) since there is a refrigerator blocking it. Anyone think its a good/bad idea to buy this just so i can perhaps bridge that gap? Whats that called again if its possible?
