Amazon has the OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU Cooler for $37.95 minus $8.00 OCZ rebate = $29.95 with free shipping
Newegg has the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler for $36.99 with free shipping (enter promo code "HARDOCP6230FS") and no rebates. Promo Expires on 7/7/08.

OCZ Vendetta 2, Xigmatek HDT-S1283, and Kingwin RVT-12025 coolers are rated "Best CPU Coolers of Q1 2008" by benchmarkreviews.com. Vendetta 2 was the winner given its sub $40 price. See also here and here. Those are closely related heatsinks (based on similar or identical designs, even rebadged) and significantly differ mostly in fans attached.

Great find OP! I personally went with the Xigmatek as they provide a backplate upon special request. I've been keeping an eye out for a good price on this for a while now. Thanks

Unfortunately, shipping from Directron kills their deals. The Xigmatek from Newegg in this deal is a much better buy because it is the exact same heatsink with a slightly better fan. But the biggest difference is that you can get the free backplate from Xigmatek that you can't get from Kingwin

Personally i prefer the ninja series as they are extremely quiet not to mention i can use it on my old 478 if need be

I JUST bought the xigmatek one about a week ago for about $10 more. However, it's pretty freaking sweet and I'd definitely recommend it.

They have the backplate listed for 7 + same shipping on Newegg, I've read several places that if you contact Xigmatech directly they will ship you out a free one.

Is this true?

I'd like to get my backplate at approx the same time as the hs, not have to contact xigmatech after i receive it, prove i own it with proof of purchase, and wait to install it.

Also, knowing who to contact at Xigmatech would be extremely useful so I could get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Do these coolers require motherboard to be removed for installation, or do they use the default intel clippings?

alert mods

They can use the default clips, but a backplate is recommended as otherwise it can make your mobo "sag".

How does Zalman CNPS9700LED cooler compares to the OCZ vendetta 2?

FYI, the Xigmatek is now selling at Newegg for $36.99, $10 MIR + FS, or $27 shipped.

Interesting, the rebate is for purchases between 7-1 through 7-31, I purchased on 7-6 when I posted here, but the rebate wasn't listed. So I qualify for another $10 off.

And no one in this thread, or that I PM'ed, replied how to get a backplate from Xigmatek for free!

Well this will solve some heating problems I was having on a server. Just hope they fit in a 3U case. As for back plates who buys a board without a back plate?
