As stated in title. TTS, fast acquiring signal, and UN-LOCKable to be a MP3 player and more. Can upgrade to a 12 million POIs. Speed camera option (Need to download a speed camera database file) is amazing!
Speed Camera Function Need to register to view the file. Briefly, download the speed camera files from that forum (called "speedcam script.zip").
* Unzip the file and you find two speedcam files: EastSpeedcamUpdates.spud and WestSpeedcamUpdates.spud .
* Turn on C230 and connect it to your computer using a USB calbe. The location for the default speedcam file is F:MioMapMioMapPOISPEEDCAMSpeedcamUpdates.spud. You also need to substitute the drive letter of your system if Mio Device is assigned a different drive letter other than F.
* Pick a speedcam file and copy to the directory.
* Delete or rename the original file. Change the name of speedcam file so the name is SpeedcamUpdates.spud .
it means the mio (the sound of cat looking for mice) is so slow that even a dumb ox can find the destination faster.

I have this GPS and it certainly beats my friend's Garmin. It gives pretty good and normal directions most of the time and it locks pretty quick. I've read that people had trouble with their unit not locking for more than 5 minutes. I'm not sure if they were trying to lock it while driving but my experience is you have to stay put to let it lock first before driving around.
Unlocking is really easy too. Might pick one for gift for bf.
I brought along a $20 off $100 Office Depot (printed) coupon. The manager accepted and I walked out with one for about $108 (including tax). Staples has a 14 day return policy on GPS units with no re-stocking fee. I'll try it for a week or so. If I don't like it, it goes back.
Have been used Mio C230 for about 2 weeks now (got price-matched of course). Loved it. If your home's window is facing south, you can get satellite signals in house. I don't know if other GPS has Speed camera option, but I didn't realize there are so MANY cameras on the streets until I used C230! Definitly the highest value/cost GPS!
After downloading the new map file with more POI, I can even find an asian supermarket which isn't a chain store. You can also input multiple stops and the software can caculate the best route.
The only problem is short battery life. Can't take it to a hiking trip for sure.
How does this thing compare to Garmin Nuvi 200 without the Text-to-Speech feature for $149.99 at BestBuy? Doesn't it meant that you have to look at the map for the street name and the GPS won't speek it for you without Text-to-Speech?

If I buy this now with $25 off coupon, can I return and rebuy with Staples Reward coupon later? I'm waiting for my $125 reward coupon and it's not gonna be mailed out until next week according to Staples.

Yes, TTS is pretty big feature for me. Garmin will say make right at next street where the mio will say make right at <street name> which is good for those who don't want to look at screen to double check.

How does the "speed camera" detection work? Is there anything we have to add onto the GPS or it detects automatically?

Thanks!
There is no "detection"... Read the first post genius.... it is explained there:

That means info may become stale....

There is no need to be mean!!! Excuse me if some of use are not as tech savvy as you!
If it is so straight forward, then where do I download the database file?

Had nothing to do with being tech savvy... it was strictly a "reading comprehension" issue. OP said dload database, you didn't comprehend and asked about "adding" to GPS, or "detecting" (meaning hardware to detect cameras), I pointed out that there is no detection, that it is a database of speed camera locations.
Sorry if the "genius" comment threw you for a loop... Had someone said that to me, I would have said "oops, I guess I should read more closely NEXT time", rather than become defensive and whiny... but that is just me!

TTS is very useful and helped me navigate well in complex freeway interchange. With TTS you get "Take the next exit [exit name] and keep left towards [location name]". Without TTS you get something like "Take the next exit and keep left". On city streets, TTS is also useful such as two left turns (at different angle) at the same junction, or simply crowded city blocks in downtown area.

bought this last time at Staples. used this unlock here. i felt it had more features and options than the other unlock posted in this thread. also you can go here to get custom poi files to load onto your Mio. They have poi files for just about every popular store in the US. The only thing i dont like about the Mio c230 is that when you push the power button and turn the gps off it still burns the battery. you have to hard reset the gps using the button on the back of the unit to prevent the battery from getting drained. if you do this you then have to screen calibrate the unit the next time you turn it on. its kinda annoying and a little bit of a hassle. picked up a 4gb sdhc card and loaded it with many poi files and tons of music. this gps is well worth the money.

This is just like any PDA. How many hours of standby time does the battery give you think?

Yes, the GPS does come with a car charger. It can be also charged by one type of cell phone charger, and usb port.
