I've just picked up 2 for $19.99 each plus tax after coupon.
I think the Channel Master converter box is the only one with S-video output.
The manual says to use Pioneer cable box code for universal remote.

The Apex DT250 sold at Best Buy for $59.99 before government coupon also has S-Video output.

What EXACTLY do you mean by HDTV converter box?

You must be among the millions of misinformed people out there
it is a DIGITAL converter box.

S-Video is not capable of carrying HD Signals (720p - 1080P) thus this is NOT an HD Digital Tuner Box

If you're going to be pedantic about it, it is a converter box (ASTC, aka HDTV to the masses) which has an input which is analog (the antenna), converts the analog ATSC carrier to it's digital equivalent, then down converts the digital signal, including HD and SD subchannels, to NTSC. None of which is particularly interesting - it converts new HDTV to your old-style TV, which seemed pretty obvious based on the title and price.

69ragtop said:The symantics in this thread is amusing. There are both HD and SD signals being broadcasted OTA (over the air). This box takes the digital HD/SD signals in the air (8VSB), decodes the MPEG2 compression, and converts the resolution to 480i regardless of what it was in the air (1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i...). So technically this box can decode HD signals but will convert them to SD.

In layman terms, it make it where you can still use bunny ear antennas with older TVs after Feb 2009.

it's semantics, not symantics, and they're broadcast, not broadcasted. jeez.

How is this converter box compare to Zenith DTT900 & DataStream DTX9900 as far as easy to use and signal sensitive?
