my son would like a new amp for his guitar. Has anyone tried this one out yet? Reviews?

I found two at my local CC (Colorado Springs, Academy N. of Woodmen). The funny thing is that $30 now appears to be the regular price. They had two, and the label did NOT say "clearance" or "sale" or anything like that, leading be to believe that this is the new regular price. At places like Amazon and Zzounds, it is still $100, but I cannot find a review anywhere, so I am nervous.

I did find a black or a pink electric 1st Act guitar at my local CC for $22, but I also found THIS ONE with dual-hummbuckers for only $30 ($130 on the web site).

So, I scored a $130 guitar and $100 amp for $60 (plus tax) out-the-door, for a total savings of 74% off. I like those numbers. I am still rather dubious about the quality, but, for the price, I can't complain. This is my 1st guitar, so now I am off to find a good book on how to play. Thanks, OP.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy one of these. From my own experience the first act amps sound like s...t, so the kids don't even appreciate the real guitar sound. If you are in a budget, check your local Guitar Center or Daddy's Junky Music stores - they usually have plenty of used gear that although cost more, but does sound a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, for the price the OP's deal is hard to beat. But if you want your kid to really learn to play the guitar - you DO want a better sounding amp. This is from my own experience.

IMHO of course...

Zzounds even has it in stock HERE. Of course, I still do not expect great things from it. However, I figured that I could use it as a cheap keyboard amp if I need to (it also claims to work as an MP3 amp or computer speakers, so it should work OK for a keyboard).

I picked up the last one at my local CC for the OP price. I only had a few minutes to play around with it, but here is my opinion...

This is a great device for a practice amp. Playing along to actual music is a good exercise for people learning guitar as it helps you learn rhythm, timing and helps develop your ear and this device makes it easy to do. With a few effects built in, you can customize the sound a bit and I found the sound to be better than I expected. However, this amp is only suitable as a small practice setup. If you are an experienced player, don't bother with this unless you are looking for a cheap portable battery powered amp. This wasn't worth $100, but I think it is a good deal at $30. If you are a beginner, this would be a good amp to start with until your ability is worthy of laying out the cash for a decent amp with some power.

I agree about the amp. Another benefit is that this amp also has a tuner built in. It is probably not as nice to use as one of the Korg's with an LCD needle display, but it gets the job done.

In an earlier post, I mentioned that I got a guitar and this amp. Now, the only thing that I need is a strap, stand, and a pick, and I have a complete basic setup. I can get the rest of that stuff or under $20, so I will have a complete beginner package for around $80. Other beginner packages are around $200, so I am doing well.

If I decide that the guitar is not for me, I can likely sell this package for pretty close to what I paid for it. If, on the other hand, I decide that I really like this, I can upgrade everything a bit at a time when I find good deals, and keep the old stuff for backup. Win-win.
