Isn't the 14+ megapixel A350 out now for around seven-something? What makes this such a good deal??? The Evolt is a 10MP DSLR and is just as cheap normally, I'm confused here. Is it the package thats the good deal then? |

Is it the package thats the good deal then? At Bestbuy, the a350 is $799.99 with just ONE lens. Here you get 2 lens. If you were to add the zoom lens to the a350 it would make it around $950(depending on what you pay for the zoom lens) So with the a200 package, you save $350 and get a decent camera. Believe me, 10MP is MORE than enough for consumers and even for amateurs. The higher MP is not always needed. The quality of the lenses is more important! (Why do you think that many lenses cost more than the camera itself!) A terrible lens on a 14MP camera is not going to give you a better picture than a decent or good lens on a 10MP(or even 6MP or 8MP) |

www.liteonphotography.com/album1/desireeandjon.html Some nice shots. You may want to use a reflector to take away the shadows on some of the faces next time though If you have photoshop or elements you can try curves or levels for post processing. |

For anybody that bought this from Best Buy last week, Circuit City has a deal this week which includes the camera, both lenses and a Sony accessory kit (extra li-ion battery and Sony case) for $649.97. Best Buy was willing to price-match Circuit City and sell me the Accessory Kit (in-store price of $109.99) for $50. Pretty good deal, since the cost of the Sony battery pack alone is $50 on Amazon.com (Linko). Linko to current Circuit City Deal |

So pretty much, if you're not a pro then go ahead(even though it got a 70%) rating. It's slow and the anti-shake isn't that good at the farther end of the lens; but for the average consumer it's ok. If you want to do photojournalism, be a semi-pro, etc, I'd just buy the body and get the len(s) you want. Bingo. For the price, you get lenses covering the full range from wide angle to telephoto and the body to use them. If you want to step up in quality down the road, you'll be spending a lot more money for lenses anyway especially if you want to get wide aperture lenses in telephoto (even the "budget" Sony/Minolta mount shorter telephoto zoom, the Minolta 70-210mm f/4, is running $200-300 these days used). In my experience, you don't start getting very good lenses until you move over the $700 mark, at least in the Sony mount. You have consumer grade lenses at <$300 prices, higher quality from $300-600, then roughly professional quality above that (image quality, not necessarily build quality -- the more you spend, the better it gets). |
