Air Conditioner Deals
Today, 7/08/08, I purchased a Daewoo Electronics: Remote Control Air Conditioner: DWC-058RL: 5350 BTU: 10.7 High Energy Efficiency for $119.99 - $50.00 instant SCE southern CA edison rebate = $69.99 at Costco. BTW, Yes...I do know that there was an additional $20.00 off. Link to FW thread. However, that has expired and $70 is still a great price. I purchased this in Oxnard, CA. I believe that the model #DWC-o58RL The R stands for remote and the L stands for ledge as in window ledge. Hey...this is just a guess.
At Costco in Oxnard, It was the last one and it was hidden behind a display of Sharp window AC units with remote that after rebate is $119 or $179.
Pictures & Specs of this Daewoo model # from a kijiji L.A. classified ad selling one for $99.99

Energy rebates vary from state to state from $20 to $50.
Energy Star Rebate Lookup

Amazon has a sale that states that ACs are up to 30% off. There is one that is 52% off.Amazon's Air Conditioner Sale

Best Buy has this Haier for $109.99. Check it out. Remember to go thru fatwallet for rebate.

Sears is having a sale thru 7/12/08. Kenmore AC $99.99 and up. Link-e-cool

Fatwallet link to Lowe's; Sale prices are still active. Just checked the Frigidaire link for $117. Still good in Central Ventura, CA.

That's all for now. Anticipating warm weather in a normally cool town. Felt like sharing my research.

***Update on 7/20/08****
I added after rebate to the title.
I deleted Overstock info. as there deals weren't deals at all.
If you live in the western part of the country, Fry's had markdowns as they were "getting ready for Inventory" according to a salesperson. i'll post the specifics later.

DO NOT Buy from Overstock

OP, the one in overstock is $104. Amazon is only $90. I've realized from the past overstock items are over price and over hype to make it look like it has great discount. Both are same model, Model No: SF-609

Do these Energy Star rebates apply if I'm renting an apartment and get a Window AC? Or, is it only for homeowners? TIA!

I've yet to read about someone happy with ANY portable A/C after a month or two of use.

Circuit City had some nice deals on highly rated Samsung A/C units but unfortunately went off sale this week.

People seem to say the Haier units break after one summer of usage. Check the Amazon reviews, they are poor.

Depends on your utility company. I own and was happy to get the Lowes 8000 BTU model for $67 after Energy Star rebate It was $167 locally but $117 ($50 taken off automatically by the utility company I guess) in the county I work in so I picked it up and submitted the 50 rebate in my county. Schweeeeeeeeeet!

I bought a Sharp CV-P10MX in the summer of 2005 (and I believe I spent closer to $800). It was the best thing ever. It was quiet enough to sleep with, never required draining the water, and easily kept my 200-sq-ft bedroom 30 degrees less than outside.

I only gave it away because my new home has central air. But on really hot days, my cheap-rental-house-with-poor-insulation isn't cold enough and I almost wish I still had it. My friend still uses it in his 1BR apartment, and still thoroughly enjoys it (and he's had it for about 5 months now).

I've had terrible experiences with a $200 portable A/C unit (didn't do anything except leak water), however, so I can understand how stand-up units might have a bad reputation.

That is NOT an air conditioner. It is an evaporative air cooler.....BIG difference.

something that could also be wheeled to the back yard to help cool the house in those less humid arizona days!

I have a Haier window unit at home and it's still working great after 3-4 years. I think it's made in China. The newer ones may be made in the US since they may have a plant in N or S Carolina if I remember correctly.

There is no energy rebate for Texas ... go figure ???

I don't think you understand. I am not talking about AC or cooler. Don't just click the link. Op's link for overstock takes you to the same item as in Amazon, except Amazon is $14 cheaper. So while overstock can have 50% off, the price is still more expensive. How is that possible with 50% off? Because maybe overstock uses some MSRP price, and they lure buyers by making look like you get good discount. 75% sounds good, 90% sounds good too. But what matters is not the % off but final paying price.

Any other A/C deals spotted?
Just checked my power usage for the month and definitely would like a cheap window unit to stop using the (ancient) central unit.

really should put in the after rebate price in the topic title, since in my area of new york state there is no rebates for air conditioners, nada, nothing. the Costco ones were $99 on sale now they are $119 for the small 5200 btu.
