I would not bother to have the tires rotated without being balanced.
I would have the tires rebalanced every 5k also. If you purchase tires at a place that offers lifetime rebalance/rotation, you are in great shape.
MC states that places are not good with putting the correct air in tires, and he is right. Many tire guys believe that the proper inflation is right on the tire, (the max psi) The car manufacture knows the correct pressure, and as MC states it can vary front to back (especially on mini vans)
I am not wanting to discount the value of a rotation, or TC op's post, only to encourage that through proper care of a tire you can meet or exceed the mileage estimates that are placed on tires. IMHO if the tire is coming off, you should have it's balance checked too.
Just took the stock Michelins off my 06 accord with 100k on them. Balanced every 5k Allignment every 20k
Used to have a volkswagen, was told to change the oil every 2.5k and the filter every 7.5k right or wrong i would change the filter more frequently too.
