Read up on Dell forums for some issues with this monitor.
My guess is most people are receiving good monitors or they do not now the difference between a good and bad monitor.
My 2408WFP has major issues mostly with horrible sharpness (that cannot be adjusted properly), 1/3 of the screen is brighter/different in color, slight input lag issues, and a few others.
I would not recommend this monitor since it has been one of the most dissapointing monitors on forums (hardforum, Dell, other forums that talk about displays).
I do have to say the price is quite good for a 24" non TN panel, but I just do not understand why the quality is so poor.
The "A01" (new firmware) is supposed to be out in mid July and people will be notified of the new firmware on the Dell forums. I would wait for the new forum before purchasing or if you cannot wait just get it now and exchange it later (if you have many of the issues).

Thanks so much! I snagged one. Last year's model in the refurb section is $499 plus shipping, so this is great!!!

As for the monitor having issues...don't they all? The 3 year warranty, the price, the CNET review on it...all sold me.

I bought one a few months ago for graphic work and it hasn't disappointed me. I had one problem where I came into the office and the screen was distorted similar to what you would see on a CRT monitor with an out of range frequency / resolution. Dell shipped out a replacement overnight but the monitor started working again after a hard reset. Their replacement was a refurb so I just shipped it back rather than replacing the original with it. I haven't had any other issues than that so I guess I got lucky. My original purchase was based on the outstanding reviews on tomshardware / cnet.

If my woman lets me I'm going to buy another one for the house.

Apologize for newbie question, but could someone explain to me how to get this DPA account to get additional discount?

Thanks!

I've noticed that it's not as nice as my 2405, which surprised me since it's 3 years newer. It also has a problem with some letters looking weird (brownish shadow that bleeds between them). Still, it's better than the "E" series Dell monitors ones by a huge margin, and at about $450, I bought another one to replace an E248WFP. Hopefully the firmware helps the known issues. Once this comes, I'll have two 2408's and a 2405, and the 248 will be sent down the road. I'll be using the 2405 as the center screen unless the firmware update makes the 2408 better.

Absolutely agree.....

I bought two at work, and the sharpness is terrible. Big disappointment for our large demo area.

Pass on any more till they address the problem.

You have to run this monitor at its native resolution. Anything else will result in terrible sharpness.

Running it at full native resolution and still have the text issues that others have and noticed the difficulty adjusting the picture to look as good as the 2405 (aside from black level, which is better on the 2408).

Well I am going to completely honest. Some people just are completely satisified with their LCD and they know little about the quality of their product.
When I purchase a higher end LCD (Dell Ultrasharp) I expect quality from it and the best way is to read up on forums from users who have extensive knowledge on displays.
After that you can tell what kind of reviews the monitors are actually receiving from the more hardcore users.
Just because one person gets a defective LCD doesn't mean everybody elses monitor is going to show the same negative traits, but the 2408WFP is notorious for numerous horrible common traits.
I can bet most people do not run tests or calibrate their LCD and just end up being satisifed from the sheer size of the screen. It also helps the 2408WFP has a ton of connections and even that card reader to distract from the screen.
Anyways I found this test to be a good starting point and my 2408WFP doesn't perform well. Since a lot of people notice the odd text I am going to start at the sharpness test page. Please do start over if you want to do all the tests.

The first thing I noticed when I used my 2408WFP was that 1/3 of the screen was brighter than the rest and that was completely unacceptable. With default Fatwallet colors I see a ligher/whiter/extremely light pink on the left 1/3 while the rest is the normal grey.
I also noticed the text was not as clear and adjusting the sharpness did not help since there was only increments of 25.

Search around and you will see many professional review sites giving the 2408WFP a stellar rating, but if you read the forums the users will point out numerous problems. There is a general consensus that the current 2408WFP should not be recommended and to wait for the new firmware or purchase another brand.
Unfortunately it is extremely hard to find a ~$500 24"+ PVA panel monitor and with this many features! Atleast Dell has a good warranty program and seem rather active in doing returns (if applicable) and exchanges. They should really just make a higher quality product off the bat so they do not have to deal with so many defects.

(sorry for all the typos, I noticed quite a bit in my 1st post... don't feel like editing and proof reading this one).

I do agree that for some reason the backlighting is not uniform. The one at work also has a one dead pixel that kind of bothers me - but I did not pay for it. It is much better then the $299 TN acer 24" it sits next too, but I agree the older 2405wfp is sharper and has a better image quality. That said, the 2405 cost $900 back then. I guess quality is suffering as these monitors are competing with much cheaper tn's. The TN paneled soyo 24" pearl lcd is $229 out the door this week at OMAX (B&M only). Some would have a hard time turning down two no frills 24" tn's over one mediocre 24" pva.

People compliment Dell on their customer service with respect to warranty replacements, and I can't believe it. Dell as a policy always sends out refurbished items for warranty replacements past 30 days. That is a huge consumer ripoff (you could have gotten a refurb for less in most cases).

I wish I could get a monitor stand that just as nice as this one for my E207WFP, reading mangas would be so much better if this could swivel.

Deal is now Dead. They decreased the savings to $100, making it $579. Best deal on 4 of these monitors with DPA extra 4% is about $489 + tax each

Some have pushed for a new unit not a refurb if they just purchased it within a certain time limit, but their policy probably states something about refurbished instead of new for warranty issues.
If my new monitor is going to be a refurbished I wouldn't care as long as it has 0 dead pixels, no/less noticable wear and tear, and it functions correctly.
In fact if a product is known to have defects i'd rather have a product that is refurbished, tested, and has the most recent "updates".
For example if I sent in a Xbox 360 w/ falcon and I get back an older revision I would be quite angry. If I received a perfectly fine Xbox 360 w/ falcon I would be completely satisfied.
If I sent in a Xbox 360 old rev. and receive an excellent condition falcon I would be delighted.
I won't comment to much on Dell's warranty until I experience their modern warranty procedures when I warranty my 2408WFP. So far all I have read is people doing exchanges and Dell wasting a ton of money with the shipping.

Goodluck to all those who just purchased their new 2408WFP, I hope you guys get one with less to no issues. It is up to you to "test" your new monitor or just leave it stock and be happy.
I would atleast suggest atleast making sure the text is clear since you are just going to wear out your eyeballs with poor sharpness settings.

I will give the cliff notes:

Dell warranty support is great for the first 30 days, not so much there after. Basically, test out and make your decisions before they have you.
