There were some concerns as to the authenticity of the cards sold on Amazon Marketplace. I contacted Sandisk with pictures of the card I received and they confirmed the card to be authentic. See my post on page 2. I apologize to everybody for declaring the card I got to be counterfeit.

I was looking for a micro SDHC card for my new AT&T tilt phone. The best price I found for a 8GB card was on Amazon.

Link to the card

There are a bunch of sellers, the one that comes up is not the cheapest. Go through the other used & new options. Go down to the list past the Featured Merchants. Currently there are two sellers that sell for $35.38 shipped. Based on the ratings all the sellers seem to be reliable. I got the card two days ago and already have <50 MB free space left on it. It came with an SD card adapter in bulk packaging (so not warranted by Sandisk as new). I mentioned the deal here, but then thought this may deserve its own thread. Besides, I guess it was time for me that I posted a deal .

Edit: Let me give some extra information I got during my research. I was looking for the largest capacity card. It looks like Sandisk is very close to releasing their 16GB micro SDHC card to be the first. They originally announced it for June, then delayed to July, and still there are no signs of it. The rumor is that they are trying to get rid of their inventory of 8GB cards before they release the 16GB one. It does make sense as there are tens of sellers selling 8GB Sandisk micro SDHC cards for less than $40 dollars shipped while any other brand seems to be at least $10 more expensive.

Edit 2: This is a class 4 card by the way, but it appears to be much faster than that. I copied a 260 MB file to the card at ~11MB/s and read it back at ~15 MB/s.

Edit 3: This is the direct shipped price, there are no rebates involved if anyone is wondering.

Edit 4: Added fake warning.

Edit 5: Added Sandisk confirmation that the card is authentic and updated the speed test results in Edit 2.

Maybe I shoud have waited. The prices may keep falling, but my phone was here, and I was anxious to load it with my software, mp3s, videos, etc. To prevent confusion, the above is for a REGULAR size card, and NOT for MICRO.

I bought 2 8GB micro cards for my Sansa DMP - have different types of music on each. Can't wait for a 16GB microSDHC so I can combine both and just have one card (-:

I am looking for a 16GB microsd card as well. But need it cheap for like $20... LOL!!! This comment is in the true FW spirit.
I am not complaining that I am not getting one, since I know by Thanksgiving I will get one for that price... just a wishful thinking for now... LOL!!!

Then I will be able to use that microsd with adapter in my just purchased canon HF-100 from eBay using the 25% off...

oooh la la....

I also ordered this microSD reader for $2.04 shipped so that I won't need to have an SD card reader to use it on my computer. It doesn't specifically say that it supports SDHC, but based on what I read from user reviews on what appears to be the identical card in white, I decided to give this one a try to save $0.90 . Also this will basically give me a really tiny USB memory drive. I still can't believe how small these things got. I can't really think them being made any smaller than that, that wouldn't even be practical!

Caveat to all readers, this is apples and oranges, OP listed a MICRO sd ... this is a full sized SD card.

"Edit 2: This is a class 4 card by the way. I copied files to it at sustained speeds of around 3 MBytes/s."

I'm not a pro, but doesn't a class 4 guarantees at least a 4mb/sec write speed by the SD Association? I have a sandisk that is only class 2, 4gb, sdhc, it writes at 3.91 mb/s and transfers at 8.10 mb/s. I hear about fakes memory cards being reported here on FW in "bulk" packaging sold on Amazon.

That is correct. Sandisk is the one that has most fake on eBay and else where with those "cheap" fake one. Do not get bulk packaging as 99% they are fake. Buy only sealed retail packaging to protect yourself.

Agreed. Eb*y is in bed with these fake memory scammers, not doing a thing about them. Be careful!

Right and eBay just beat a lawsuit regarding fake merchandise sold on thier site.

eBay Inc. scored an important victory in court Monday, as a federal judge said companies such as jeweler Tiffany & Co. are responsible for policing their trademarks online, not auction platforms like eBay.

Tiffany had sued eBay in 2004, arguing that most items listed for sale as genuine Tiffany products on eBay's sites were fakes.

But U.S. District Judge Richard J. Sullivan in New York ruled that eBay can't be held liable for trademark infringement "based solely on their generalized knowledge that trademark infringement might be occurring on their Web sites."

Regarding the authenticity of the brand, I didn't buy this card because it was Sandisk. I bought it just because it was the cheapest. Granted I didn't question the quality of the card as I know Sandisk to be a reputable flash memory maker. What I am trying to say is if it said some unkown brand on the card I would still order it, unless there were a lot of bad reviews of that brand. If I thought that getting a fake card was a possibility my biggest concern would be to get a lower capacity card labeled as 8GB as it was the case with the 4GB SD cards when they first started to appear. I loaded the card full with data and am using it daily. So far I haven’t had a problem.

Regarding the speed, I don’t think I ever had a card where I saw the advertised speeds when transferring data. Maybe it’s the reader I am using, or maybe I had fake cards all along. That may be the case as I bought a lot of cheap cards from unknown small retailers. Is there a definite way to tell whether a card is fake or not?

How can I tell if it is a real "Sandisk" or a fake?

I have two "Sandisk" cards - they both perform as expected and I am happy with them. Are they the real turtle soup or merely the mock?

alert mods

Sorry everybody, I am afraid the card I bought IS a fake Sandisk card . I looked at the high resolution photos on Sandisk website. The card itself looks pretty close to the real one, except that it is missing the little superscripted trademark “R”, but the adapter looks nothing like the real one. I hadn’t noticed it before, but even without comparing it to the real adapter photos you can tell that the adapter is a fake Sandisk, they did such a poor job there. The card seems to be a real 8GB micro SDHC though, albeit slower than class 4 I guess.

I would mark this thread as dead, but maybe should keep it for information purposes, I don't know.

Edit: People reported getting 8GB Sandisk micro SDHC cards in retail packaging from big retailers that didn't have the trademark circle R. Also it looks like Sandisk sells cards with adapters that look different than the one shown on their website. So these two do not necessarily prove a card fake.

Dang...people took away my little bit of green that I had for my previous post? Tough crowd =(

Anyways, Sandisk carries exploded pics of their memory. The only thing you have to keep in mind when comparing is to make sure yours is the same generation. You can still get an good idea by looking how straight and perfect everything printed. Also look at the curve of the plastic.

When I get a SD card, microsd in particular, the first thing I do is format the card and transfer 1.36 gb folder of stuff into the card and time it. Then I'll transfer it back into my pc. If your card is not up to speed you can always return it and just get a refund as described on Amazon. The best way is to protect yourself from fakes is to purchase from large retailers like Newegg and Buy.com. But make sure your package is sealed and not getting someone else's return.

I'm sure your card reader is doing it's job and is better than what I have, as mine is a cheapy one shipped from HK for less than 3 bucks. I have a couple extra ones that later came with my flash cards. People in the bay area are more than welcome to.

Hope this helps

Edit- you posted before I finished typing. I type SLOOOOOW.

I've seen many different variations of Adapters by Sandisk. They are real, but just different stickers. It seems like they just have different factories from China making them or something. In regards to the MICROSD card, I do remember seeing somewhere on a NDS forum that the trademark was added on later for the new batches. But if your speed is not up to par, then it's a good sign and just return it.

I bought the sandisk 8g microsd hc from Fry's b&m and it does NOT have the trademark R on the card. It didn't come with a reader. It does say "Made in China" and a bunch of letters and numbers above it. I'm contemplating returning it. There's no Fry's near where I live and today is the last day I can return it to b&m.

Edit: The card is fast. But since I have doubt, I will return it. Memory cards will continue falling in price and there's no immediate need for this card.

Mine is just like yours, it doesn't have the trademark R, says "MADE IN CHINA" on the card and "0813902482DBF" above it (I used a 8x magnifying glass to read it ) I will try to post a macro shot of the card and adapter if I can find my camera.
