I have the panasonic plasma model....its so so great...

yes..other plasma do suck...go to costco and look at the visio against the panasonic...that sold me so quick on the panasonic.

TV is a science..and panasonic have good science...other companies just slap a tv together and hope you would just buy it...but after seeing so many panasonics..I yet to see one that is bad..but so so so so many plasmas...are so bad...they should not be..being plasma..but so so so bad...

even in standard definition..my plasma looks great...

the visios look great out of the box..but after a while....the set just does not look that good..

$798.

Picure was horrible in comparison to a larger Samsung beside it.
Soft and muted. Black / Dark had no range.
And old couple who were TV shopping asked what was wrong with it to the sales clerk. I did not hear the reply as I was shopping for the clearance Ipod shuffle.

Two points:

1) This is typical - Hitachis are generally not set up properly at stores and if they have the noise reduction left on and the settings on default, they will look a lot worse than other brands, particularly if the other brands are cranked to maximum contrast in the super-bright showroom flooded with fluorescent lighting that is not much like a typical living or family room. If you're considering one of these Hitachis, try the settings I listed above in my post on a floor model at your local store and see how that works.

2) I would not buy a Hitachi at a Sears unless the price was significantly less than I could obtain from CC, the local CC would not match the price at Sears and I was dead set on getting the Hitachi and not consider some other brand. The reason: CC has a 30 day no restocking fee return policy, Sears has a 15% restocking fee.

bigfootpi said:how it is these plasmas get away with lower detail/definition horizontal resolution is just odd. They get away with it because most TV signals have way less than 1920 pixels worth of information in the horizontal direction, and at normal viewing distances of, say, 8 feet, the pixels (0.036" wide) are almost at the limits of 20/20 vision.

Has anyone had problems making this work with the universal 3 way remote from Comcast? I tried all the Hitachi codes and even went through about 150 other codes, and nothing worked.

Anyone know how to get this working on the Comcast Universal remote?
Thanks!

ok here's my story. I hope someone can help.
I got the Hitachi P42H401 for 737.00 on 7/24/08. I picked it up at 8/31/08 because it had to be transported vertically and couldn't get a van that would accomodate it. Had it for 2 weeks. And it runs HOT! I have a 50in. NEC plasma thats not half as hot. so I return it. they gave me a hard time getting a refund so I took an exchange.
I got a panasonoc LCD and the tag says 799.00. Then the sales person tells me the "do you want the in-house calibration, its FREE?" so I said yes. They give me a receipt where the TV is 649.99 + 149.99 for the calibration and NOT the 799.00 . I said why 149.99? I don't want it, I'll take it for 649.99. they said "oh, the price of the tv was adjusted for the price of the calibration so it would ring up 799. it all balances out".
Well, I take it home and call another store and....guess what those TV's ring up 649.99". so clearly, this store manager is playing shenanigans here. Since I didn't want to go back to that store I asked another store if they would I either give me a refund or remove the 149.99 and they said "no, you have to deal with the store that sold it to you".

What can I do guys?
