Just picked up a Hitachi P42H401 Plasma HDTV at Circuit City on clearance for $688.96 (got the last one in the East Palo Alto, CA store. was new in box). 3 HDMI inputs, QAM, etc etc.

They also have the 50" version for $950, which is also 1080i. An excellent deal if you're in the market.

This is not a 1080p set, it is actually 1080i.

actually its 1024 X 1080
rectangular pixels FTG (for teh ghey) - lol
how it is these plasmas get away with lower detail/definition horizontal resolution is just odd.

Actually a decent deal, but I hope you don't think it's really 1080P.

I guess by now, you know the reality of the matter.

This bums me out I just got rid of the box for the 37" Philips that I picked up from Office Depot on the deal a few weeks ago.
At least I think I have broken my string of bad luck on LCD TV's. It has lasted more than a day - 17 days and counting.

haha oh well, I have my 2405FPW for the real 1080p stuff anyways.

for $688, I'm not complaining

I have this TV it is great I bought it a year ago for $775 worth every penny... Great for Wii & PS3.....

Great price sweet picture... But yes only 1080I.....

alert mods

i bought the same thing last year... i think for a bit under 850... cant complain about the quality.... it does make an annoying hum when its on but i have heard thats normal for plasmas. ive compared to other higher priced (vs and i like mine better

Why all the red?

I also have this TV and jumped on the deal last fall for around $750 or so. Great TV and a great upgrade from the old tube TV. I have had no problems with it yet and love the picture.

looks like a good deal to me

I think, in general, because Hitachi continues to tout this tv as 1080(i), which confuses the "unsuspecting" (eg, OP), into thinking it is full 1080p.

In reality, in a side by side comparison with the 720p Panasonic, the Hitachi looks decent, but unremarkable.

I bought this TV over a year ago for about $800. It's a really good TV, and this is a great price for it. Nice find OP!

it's actually not either.. it's 1024X1080 which is kinda pointless. It's better than 1024X768 plasma but not much..

It's 1080i

it have 1080 horisontal lines (from top to bottom), but two rows share anodes.
So only one row can be updated at time, e.g interlaced.

So it's much better than 720p but not as good as 1080p

pros:
it does help eliminate the screen door effect as it only have half the numbers of the thin black lines between pixels.

The panel itself is not 1080 anything. Unless you'd consider a display that was 2 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high to be 1080p ? It accepts 1920X1080 interlaced signal and then transforms it into the ridiculous resolution of 1024X1080.... there by cutting the resolution widthwide in half but preserving the vertical resolution.

Guess because its clearance they no longer have it on the website?

So i called the store and the employee told me he would look for me .... i heard him call his friends and tell them to get down there now for an excellent deal ....... boy are his friends gonna be disappointed .... he just told me they are out of'em. *smile*
