Highly flawed is an understatement. It has more documented problems than any other converter box.
Dish Network also played model # and pricing games to confuse the market. They claimed it was model TR-40, at a price of $39.99, so free after coupon. Then they changed the name, then a week before release they upped the price to $59.99, so $19.99 after rebate.
Call Dish Network and they are clueless, some claim they will sell you their service telling you "you don't need that, after next year you won't be able to get any locals unless you sign up for our sat w/ locals service". And I'm a Dish Network subscriber myself, but despise companies when they lie about this stuff.
They're buggy, were over hyped, under delivered. Yes the interface probably is better than most others, but that doesn't help the core problems. If you want one that has been highly reviewed as a great unit with sensitive tuner, go with the Zenith DTT-901. It has the dolby digital audio bug FIXED that plagued earlier releases of the DTT900, plus has analog pass through. No it wont control your VCR like the TR-40, but how many people want to record a 500+ line DTV signal on a 300 line VCR?
