REI's Super Clearance sale is when REI and REI-outlet have 50% off all items that end in .83 - this is online and in B&M

Their next super clearance will start on 8/22. B&M stores usually open at 10am but the sale usually starts online at 12 midnight pst.

Confirmed by this Berkeley REI link

They do a super clearance sale twice a year and these are the best sales that REI has. Marked down items will sell out FAST!

Sale Pricing: Most items are already marked 20-60% off before they take an additional 50% off the discounted price. This additional 50% off either comes off when you put the item in your cart or has already been off the price that you see for the item on the item page. They have done it differently depending on the sale. For example: the spring 07 sale 50% was taken off on the item's page, while the fall 2006 took off 50% in the cart.
(Edit on pricing) - it is only on items ending in .83, but the items that end in .83 will change before and during the sale.

Sale Timing: The exact start times are not exactly when REI has said in the past. They seem to be using different methods of marking down the gear for the sale. For example for the spring 2007 sale REI said that it would begin on Feb 12 but then it began on Feb 9. REI said the fall 2007 sale would start Aug 24 but then they started manually marking down the items on Aug 23.

Best shopping techniques:
1. Load up your cart with items that end in .83 before the sale begins. Then check the prices of the items in your cart when the sale begins.
2. They also add many new items through the sale so keep checking back during the sale
3. To keep items in the cart from disappearing while you are looking around: 1) place several small orders, or 2) move the order to the checkout process. This in the past has seemed to hold your items and you could still add items using anther browser tab.
4. "Be prepared for cancellation / OOS emails. Seriously, REI doesn't update the stock on their web page in real time (only once every 30 min or so), which usually leads to some disappointment during this sale." Although sometimes they will issue a 20% coupon to say sorry.

Remember that Ship to Store is free with REI and they have 100% satisfaction guarantee

SALE IS ON!!! ACT FAST OR YOUR ITEM WILL SELL OUT!

BMRisko said:I make this reply every year, but here goes again. If the sale price is around 30% off, but ends in .83, it will get an additional 50% off in the cart or marked down later as it hasn't been marked down to the final price yet. If the sale price is around 60-80% off, it will not get marked down an additional 50%. That sale price already reflects the "super" discount.

IBTIdiots start posting and questioning the 50% off and saying it is not like it used to be. YES IT IS...they just deduct the final 50% before putting it in your cart.

Oops, I thought this is Augest! And as I checked, the price didn't change. Then I realize this is July. Hope I can find sth. next month.

They had a nice sets of Napkins on sale last time when I went. Bought 2 and love these. They are so efficient in absorbing the water that we are using them on a regular basis. I should have grabbed some more. Hope they go on sale this time as well.

Thanks OP for Heads up.

Yeah, REI is the first place I always think of if I need napkins...OR a mountain bike.

Is it possible to buy items that are marked at .83 now, then get a pricematch to the discounted price on the day of the sale?

No pricematching, IIRC. I think it was posted somewhere...
They used to take 50 percent off @ checkout, but last 2 years, I believe, it's just been the .83 price, and they say it's 'already reduced'.

How do you find items that end in .83?

Looks like they've already started marking down some items to $XX.83 (as the OP said). I should have jumped on this Nike Dri-Fit t-shirt when they had my size (marked down to $14.83 from $20.00) yesterday but now it's OOS. Oh well, I'll just keep an eye out for the 50% off sale later.

thanks for this. found this last year, got about $900 of stuff for $230 or so. returned a lot of it cause stuff didn't fit right or whatever, but hell, it's worth taking the chance when you can return any of it at any time. my favorite score was the $130 ultra lightweight breathable rain jacket for $30, and the $15 waterproof hiking shoes.

I'm in! I got a $60 gc for opening up a visa with them thru US Bank. The gc never came so I called and told US Bank it's a bad start to a new relationship etc.. manager gave me a $60 customer credit on my statement, which kinda sucked because I don't carry balance. Then sent me my $60 gc! Now time to unload that gc thanks op!

Did sale start? I see 96% off some items, most OOS already low to high pricing

Wow, that is a motley assortment of clearance items. Except for the Outside Inside Fireplace Canoe Santa Ornament. In for a dozen.
