Are YOU on the Leaderboard?

Check to see…

  • Who posted the hottest deal(s) last week
  • Which rookies* posted a hit in hot deals
  • Our monthly MVP
  • A weekly honor roll of 100 positive hot deals contributors

Leaderboard members earn a FW Cup next to their avatar with number of times they’ve been on the board. This marks the begining of us finding ways to say 'thanks' to members who power our Hot Deals forum. Feel free to share your ideas and questions.

*"Rookies" have posted 5 or fewer hot deals.

Quick Summary is created and edited by users like you... Add FAQ's, Links and other Relevant Information by clicking the edit button in the lower right hand corner of this message.

Hmm.. better luck next time...

Cool idea,
I was confused at first, but I now see "hotness" is based on #views/posts for an originating thread.

This is sorta like when in Star Trek shows, they couldnt give the actors a raise, so they gave them a promotion on the show. major to lt. Col. . lol

Here's a question: are you going to reward members if they "steal" a deal from another member at another site?

I have absolutely no issue when someone posts something that originated elsewhere, although I personally believe credit should be given in those cases, but I'm curious how you'll respond. You may see an influx of people copying and pasting without searching first (lots of reposts).

Only if they were the OP in those threads as well.

I'd like to chime in on this--

There have been occassions where I find a deal elsewhere and "re-tool" it. For instance, on another deal site there may not be FW Cash Back and I have to compute the net cost, create new hyperlinks and post additionaly coupon/savings codes that apply to an FW only deal. I don't consider that stealing when you are putting a good deal of your own effort into improving or making the deal unique to FW.

If all someone is doing is cutting/pasting info, then yes, by all means, give credit to the originating poster/site.

We think we've found a decent formula to reward those posting truly hot deals. Topics that are reposts or otherwise not particularly helpful probably won't push those members onto our leaderboard. Seems the results of week #1 are pretty valid, don't you think?

Oh, and I'm with you - no problem with people finding deals elsewhere and posting them here with credit to the original site/poster, or even better what MISTERCHEAP does... though we'd certainly love the posts to be made here first.

this is a HOT deal. This is a great setup!

Hey mods, why don't u just create cross-site crawlers for this. =)

I foresee a flood of deals that aren't very good but are still posted in hopes of getting a trophy next to their name.

And kind of offtopic, but how do some deals get a "HOT" designation in their title, even when they have low views and low/no replies?

alert mods

This is nice, I guess. But how does this help me find a hot deal? I don't think it does.

I have mixed feelings about "rep" systems, which is what the Leaderboard seems to be. On the one hand, it helps one see who's legit and who's not. But on the other hand, posters start to beg for reps and get all worked up over the whole process.

But, hey, congrats to everybody on the leaderboard. I'm sure they all deserve the recognition.

Its not based on number of deals posted. Its based on how many page views/responses their particular posted deal received.

For instance MRTRANCE had 399 responses and 37733 page views to his
AIO Laser Printer Post 9-day ago, thus representing a HOT DEAL.

If you are posting "cr*p" deals you would have to post a bunch to get 38K page views in 9-days.

I wouldn't think that basing it on number of views or number of deal posting has any bearing on how useful the deal was. I think it should be based on how USEFUL the post to others. Although, it's not perfect the rating of the post is one way to determine. Aquick way to determine may be let's say add up all the greens a FWer got in a period of time (let's say a month) and subtract all the reds in the same time, sort it by descending order, and there you have the top 5 or 10 whatever... my 2 sense.

and oh, I don't care where the deal came from originally, If I see it here first, credit goes to whoever posted it here.. (really, if the person hadn't posted it here, I wouldn't see it so if someone posted it on somewhere else wouldn't really help my cuz, simply because I'm not going browse every single hot deal site out there)
