Dremel 761-03 7,000/14,000 RPM Cordless Pet Nail Grooming Rotary Tool $21.80
Dremel 750-02 Minimite 13,000 RPM 2 Speed 4.8-Volt Cordless Rotary Tool $29.71
Dremel MultiPro Cordless 7700-02 20,000 RPM Two-Speed 7.2V Rotary Tool System w/50 Accessories $44.29
I like that it's quiet and painless, but anyone know if it's too small to use on a large golden retriever?
maybe i'm missing something, but how is this specialized for pet nail trimming? I've seen the other Dremel clone for nail trimming that includes a specilty guard, but this looks like a regular Dremel but in tranlucent orange.
Don't red me... serious question.

the main difference between this and a minimight is that this needs 4 AA batteries. the minimight is rechargable. this one is a 7k/14k rpm whereas the minimight is 6.5k/13k rpm. Amazon seems to have good prices on several dremels. i have my eye on the dremel stylus and screwdriver combo $92.49 and ships free. best froogle price is 89.99 but no FS

lol
FWIW, dremel makes/made at least one other special market dremel set for manicures. it also featured a colored body and i presume that it used AA batteries.
You should be able to use this for anything you might use the dremel minimight for right? Am I missing something or is this just a regular (AA powered) dremel marketed towards Pet Nails?

i would presume so. there MAY be slightly cheaper parts in this version since it sells for less, but then again, maybe it's the same and just a better deal. either way, these cordless dremels are really for lightweight use.

Using a dremel to groom my dog? Hahahahaha. The dremel really thinks it can do anything.
I tried using my regular dremmel tool for this just this past weekend. The problem was it kind of freeked the dog out. This one sounds like it's less powerfull and quieter then the regular dremmel. It uses AA batteries which is a plus since I have lots of those and if you need to replace them they are cheap. (special rechargeable batteries go dead/bad and then you are SOL). I think I'm going to give this a shot.
Thanks OP.

I have been using a regular dremel clone (plug-in 110v) for this purpose. I've tried it on a few dogs. Some don't mind it. (One runs and hides whenever the tool is seen). I like the ability to have a wide variety of speeds for this purpose. At the time I bought it, I think the plug-in 110v ones achieved higher speeds.
One feature that I searched for a for a long time, and never found was reversing. Does OP or anyone know if these dremels reverse?
In case anyone wants to know, I tried a few models, returning all but one. The one I settled on was a craftsman, with the usual caveats re: how Sears doesn't offer a lifetime warranty on power tools. It was one of their higher-end ones.
The tool is fine. I don't know who made it for craftsman. I've used dremels and other dremel clones. This Sears product seems mostly better made than many (but not all) of the competition.
However, the craftsman-supplied accessories and toolbox seem pretty crappy; The craftsman toolbox esp. doesn't seem well made or sturdy and broke fairly quickly.

i have one of the high end craftsman wired units. i've been happy with it. the box seemed great to me, and has weathered ~10 of use. my unit has cut a lot of fiberglass (the dust is abrasive and bad for power tools) and so far has only developed a squeak when running but i attribute that to a fall it once took (i suspect that the shaft bent slightly).
i have not seen a dremel that goes in reverse. they have a screwdriver out that comes with the stylus unit--but that is no where near the speed of a rotary tool.
